Wired article talks Wii as compared to PS3

Can the PS3 save Sony? That’s what Wired explores in a recent article urging the company to become “fun again.” Author Frank Rose had this say about the Wii: “The Wii is a product Sony might have developed in its heyday. It doesn’t try to outdo anyone on graphics muscle or computational power? in fact, it opts out of the arms race entirely. Faced with a shrinking vide...

Timeless: Mario, Luigi, saving Toadstools

I’ve played a game featuring Jumpman — I mean Mario — every year since 1986. Whether it was the classic Original (not the dual Duck Hunt/Super Mario Bros., the single game one), Dr. Mario, or seeing him bash Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros. Melee, I’ve really never not liked Mario — or his quieter, high jumping brother Luigi for that matter. It’s pretty amazi...

Wii Marketing and Button Uncertainty

Kotaku’s Brian Ashcraft recently posted about an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto where he stated that the company is still debating about how many buttons to put on the controller, as well as Nintendo’s goal to target people that haven’t yet planned on buying a next-generation console. From the article:“…So far, so good, as a the Wii got 70 percent in a Famitsu poll f...

Infendo Genie

After a sweat-inducing bout of multiplayer Meteos at TGS last Fall, the Inf crew stumbled upon a label-less copy of Feel the Magic and attempted to play it. When Nick tried to rub the screen without a stylus, his DS hissed, rumbled and popped until a blue smoke flowed out from within the speaker holes to form a giant hulking figure. He called himself “Genie”, saying only that he grants...

Game Collectibles

A few issues back (Volume 199), Nintendo Power featured a small article in it’s “Community” section, in which employees of NOA showed off some of their favorite Nintendo goodies. These ranged from an original copy of Stack-Up (the only game other than Gyromite that made use of R.O.B) complete with accessories, to a lego trophy, awarded to Dan Oswen by Shigeru Miyamoto. Now, most ...

Mario Revolution to be Unveiled December 2?

According to Spong, Shigeru Miyamoto will give a keynote address at the Digital Interactive Entertainment Conference on December 2. It is rumored he will unveil Mario Revolution (128) during his 30 minute presentation in Kyoto. That would make my day if true, but alas, we never like sourcing Spong for obvious reasons. Take it for what it’s worth. [Source: Spong]

Quote of the Day

With the online plan we have, there’s no fee. It’s easy to use. There’s no setup for the player. …We wanted something that was safe, reliable, and didn’t cost the player anything. – Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo Amen to that.

Revolution Controller: Not done

Shigeru Miyamoto has said that the Revolution controller’s functionality has not yet been finalized. I kinda guessed that since they haven’t shown the thing. Shocker! (Note to self: this means that all the mockup photos that are coming in are just fake. Still fun to speculate though.)

The Legacy Of Super Mario Bros: From 1983 To Now

If there was ever a game series to capture the hearts and minds of millions of players across the globe, Mario certainly takes the proverbial cake. Hailed as Nintendo’s greatest character, Mario became the poster plumber for the Nintendo brand and rightly so – by 1990, you’d be unlikely to find a single gamer who didn’t know who Mario was as the moustached man stole the attention of fans across th...

Your 2012 gaming plans according to Nintendo

E3 may be long gone, but this week Nintendo has outlined the games gamers will be gaming (see what I did there?) on Nintendo consoles in 2012. Notably absent is any mention of recent Japanese releases Last Story and Pandora’s Tower, which many gamers were hoping would help fill in the gaps until Skyward Sword and Wii U. Wii isn’t totally dead in the water though, check out Derek’...

Iwata asks is all about the music!

In the latest edition of Iwata Asks, Satoru Iwata sits down with video game composers Koji Kondo and Mahito Yokota and talks about the soundtrack for the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake for the Nintendo 3DS. As usual for Iwata Asks it is a very interesting read, but one part managed to grab my attention:

Is “Project Café” the codename of the successor to Wii?

More news about ‘Wii 2’ continues to flood the interwebs this week as French news website 01net is reporting that Nintendo’s next home console will be codenamed Project Café and the console’s input device will feature a six inch single input touch screen. 01net cites unnamed sources, but keep in mind that they were the same site that first broke the news of the Sony NGP. T...
