Wii U

Rumor: Wii U name could be scrapped in favor of something, anything, better

Just imagine what must be happening at Nintendo headquarters right about now. After thwarting Miyamoto’s lastest attempt to escape his cell and fighting to turn a profit even among the recent sales success of 3DS, Nintendo is once again facing criticism over something else. The name Wii U. I mean, I have never really much cared for the name of Nintendo’s forthcoming console, but then a...

How does Wii U compare to the rumored Xbox?

While not exactly Nintendo news, IGN today has revealed that the next Xbox (how bout we DON’T call it the 720, shall we?) will be based on the AMD 6000 series of GPU architecture which was introduced last year. While we don’t know exactly what will ship inside the next Xbox, IGN cites that the GPU will be similar to the Radeon HD 6670, which sports DirectX 11, 3D, 1080p output, and mul...

Sequel glut driving players away from consoles to more “original” games on iOS?

That’s what Gamaustrua analyst Matt Matthews suspects: The second point (of last year’s annual console sales) brings out is just how sequel-driven the top end of the market has become. Every game, with exception of Just Dance 2 and Batman: Arkham City is a sequel several times over. I’m just now beginning to try to follow the mobile/tablet gaming market, and while many of the g...

What to expect from Nintendo this year

2011 was one heck of a roller coaster ride for Nintendo fans, wouldn’t you say? After coming off what I still consider to be one of the top five games to be released on Wii in Donkey Kong Country Returns at then end of 2010, Wii owners were left with little to nothing new to play until the release of Skyward Sword. Sure there were titles to fill the void such as Conduit 2, de Blob 2, and Kir...

More on Zelda HD, the “HUD-less” version

I love this: Zelda HD (at CES this week) is the same tech demo we got at E3 last year, but it still has us clamoring for an actual game with these graphics and features. The coolest part is how the TV screen is completely HUD-less. Hearts, items and the mini-map all show up on the Wii U controller and it all looks absolutely gorgeous. It makes me wonder if HUDs should die once and for all.

Hands-on with “impressive” Wii U controller

Via Ars Technica, who was a bit frustrated by the lack of new information: The new controller is an impressive thing to hold in your hands. It feels solid and comfortable, and nothing about it marks it as a weak link. The screen itself is bright and beautiful, much clearer than the screen on an iPad, and even small details of the games are able to be seen clearly. The controller’s speakers a...

What are you most excited to play this year?

The first half of the year is obviously a down one for Nintendo. Some okay games on that list, but not any must haves. Of course, that could all change when Wii U drops in the fall’Nintendo is expected to detail the console and its launch games at E3 this summer. Still, what Nintendo games are you most excited to play? More 3DS? Wii U? A completely new surprise, a la Wii Sports? Or a specific game...

Yawn: Wii U to include “full blown” app store

Or so says The Daily. As if the world didn’t already have enough app stores. I like “game stores” a whole lot better.

Nothing to see here: Nintendo just “replaying” Wii U presentation at CES next month

Here it is, straight from the horse’s mouth: “Nintendo of America, working with the 2012 International CES management, will offer demos of the upcoming Wii U console to members of the media who did not see the system at the 2011 E3 Expo. However, Nintendo will not have a booth at CES, nor does it plan to include any games, experiences or information beyond what was available at the 201...

Nintendo partnering with EA for Wii U online?

Nintendo knows online multiplayer as well as Microsoft knows original games. In other words, not much. Which is why the former is reportedly working with EA to have them power Wii U’s online multiplayer and digital distribution. “An anonymous source, claiming to be working within Electronic Arts, says that the company is in talks to make Origin, EA’s digital games distribution pl...

Charging forward–After 3D Land, what kind of plumber platformer would you like to see?

Just three days to go before the Mushroom Kingdom takes over your 3DS! After that, we still have Paper Mario, Mario Tennis, and a new Super Smash Brothers to look forward to. And then… Where would you like to see Nintendo take Mario for his next platform adventure?
