Six things you didn’t know about 3DS

According to the fellow babies at 1up: “Nintendo 3DS” is not the system’s formal name. The 3DS will be backward-compatible with the DS and DSi , making it that much easier to upgrade and start anew. It will not require 3D glasses, leading to speculation that it will utilize the “parallax barrier” technique developed by Sharp. This involves using a secondary, overlappi...

Nintendo Virtual Boy named one of “50 worst inventions” by Time Magazine

Is the Nintendo Virtual Boy one of the worst inventions ever created by mankind? Probably not. But it makes for great fodder (and headache jokes), as brought to you by Time. Not to mention it was a miserable gaming failure: The Virtual Boy will go down as Nintendo’s most short-lived system, staying on the market for just six months in 1995 before being mercy-killed… It was expensive (r...

FCC approves new Wii remote, MotionPlus built-in?

Not only has the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) inadvertently revealed information regarding the 3Ds’ screens, but it’s also tipped us off to a new version of the Wii remote. The new Wii remote which sports an RVL-036 label instead of the current RVL-003 branding was approved by the FCC, but manufacturer Hon Hai Precision–also known as Foxconn–submitted a confiden...

Here’s Nintendos new “hi-tech” HQ

From Techflash: But this is a video-game company, after all, and most of the fun stuff is on the inside. There’s an employees-only Nintendo World store, a new Cafe Mario employee restaurant, and a directional system that divides the building into color-coded quadrants named after Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Wario. Not to mention a gigantic top-floor conference room named the “Master ...

Nintendo tries “budget” track with Monday releases

This could just be me, but I noticed that Nintendo made it a point to stress some of the titles in this week’s Monday update were “budget” priced and inexpensive at 500 Wii Points apiece. Led me to wonder…no company says anything in a press release that they don’t mean to, so are these titles perhaps not doing as hot because of their pricing? Are developers still comp...

Nintendo: “Games and content are specific to each Wii, not users”

Want to upgrade your Wii to the new black? Then you’ll have to hold on to your old Wii to play previously purchased games, forfeit them altogether, or buy them a second time, Wired reports. “It shows extreme lack of foresight on their part,” says Wii owner Nathan Gillmore. “Did they really think the general public would be content to have all of their purchased content boun...
