Karas

Ibira initially pictured Karas as a horror story with a vengeance theme. The protagonist karas is on a quest, slaughtering mikuras to recover the body parts of his murdered lover. Until he recovers all the parts, he assembles them into a katana to kill the mikuras. The final version of Karas was more of a superhero action story.

Karas tells the story of Otoha, a former yakuza, living in a fictional version of Shinjuku, Tokyo populated by humans and y?kai (Japanese spirits). He is one of the titular karas, humans appointed as superpowered agents of the land. Able to transform into a car, an aircraft, and an armored crusader; the skilled swordsman is to stop his corrupt predecessor, Eko, from taking over Tokyo. Supporting characters such as Eko’s former henchman, Nue; the y?kai; and Homura, the karas of another city, help Otoha in his quest.

  3. Wow!!!! Thanks for the post Infendo. I’m a huge Street Fighter fan and love the Capcom Vs. series games. I will be getting this game and my only wish was that I knew more about the Tatsunoko characters. So to whoever wrote this one, You are mega dragon punch awesome!!!!!!

  4. Zachs, afraid it’s not that simple. Kyatto Ninden Teyandee was a joint effort, and the licensing for it is a mess, it was sadly never going to happen, same deal with Macross.

  5. Amazingly, licensing issues have actually worked in /my/ favor here as well, as I hate that Genie with the fury of a thousand Foreman grills and he’s been axed for local release, hurrah!

    Also thanks infendo, there were a couple here I wasn’t familiar with (polymar, yatterman & karas).

  7. great post you filled in the gaps of the unknown characters for me. all i have to say though is i will never switch from karas if he moves like in the movie how can he be beat??? well maybe the golden zippo guy too
