Dark Samus Joins The Fray!

Dark Samus Smash Echo Fighter

Simon Belmont wasn’t the only new character we saw in today’s Nintendo Direct! Fans of Dark Samus, Metroid Prime 4 or anything in between – rejoice! Dark Samus joins the battle as the newest echo fighter in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Fans of the Metroid series have been wanting some new representation for their favourite games in Super Smash Bros for a while now. Up until now, Samus has sat alone as the rep for Metroid, with the only other character from the series being… well, Samus. Zero Suit Samus to be precise.

Earlier this year, Ridley joined Super Smash Bros Ultimate as a brand new character, making the dreams of many a Metroid fanboy come true. But those dreams just got even better with the addition of Dark Samus. Now Metroid fans have a few characters to choose from when they want to rep their favourite game series.

Dark Samus was previously featured in Super Smash Bros For WiiU and 3DS as an assist trophy, so it’s nice to see another character graduate from such humble beginnings.

Nintendo Switch owners are no-doubt aware that Metroid Prime 4 is coming out, well, eventually. There’s still a lot of confusion as to exactly how much longer it’s going to be, but speculation seems to point towards a 2019 release. Until then, it’ll be nice to reenact some of our favourite Metroid scenes with Dark Samus and Ridley. No more fighting purple Charizards for us!

Super Smash Bros Ultimate comes out in early December. Are you as excited as we are to unleash the dark side with Dark Samus? What’s your opinion on echo fighters as opposed to wholly original characters? Just how many more fighters can join the roster!?! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
