Super Smash Bros. 3DS Open Tournament

At E3 we were treated to a thrilling Super Smash Bros. tournament. Now it’s your turn to compete. The “Super Smash Bros. 3DS National U.S. Tournament” has officially been announced.

The open tournament will be held on October 4th, one day after the release. 15 GameStop locations across the U.S. and the Nintendo World Store in New York City (see below for locations) will host the preliminary rounds of the tournament. 64 players will be allowed to compete at each location, participating in three rounds of 4-player battles. Selection is on a “first come, first served” basis, so those wishing to participate will need to arrive early to ensure a place among the competitors. Consoles and copies of the game will be available at each location.

The champion from each of the 16 locations will win a 3DS XL, a copy of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and a $250 Visa gift card. More importantly, each champion will win a trip (flight and hotel) to New York City, where they will compete in the finale of the Super Smash Bros. 3DS National Open Tournament. The finale will be held at the Nintendo World Store on October 11th, and will be streamed live on Nintendo’s Twitch and YouTube channels at 6pm EST. The grand finale’s champion receives a “Champions Robe” and a trophy (valued at approx. $900).

This tournament is a brilliant way to not only bring gamers together, but to help spread the joy of Super Smash Bros. Tournaments like this hearken back to the NES and SNES eras, when Nintendo held many various competitions. Everything from Star Fox and Donkey Kong Country, to the Nintendo World Championships, took the Nintendo gaming world by storm with nationwide competitions and motivated a generation of gamers to strive for new heights. Seeing Nintendo return to these tournaments is thrilling, and we can only hope this is just the beginning. Which one of you wonderful readers has what it takes to tackle this challenge, and represent Infendo with pride in the National Open Tournament?
