Belgian mag gives Super Mario Galaxy a 9.2 — and it wasn’t me

Before you start yappin’, I was not in Belgium this weekend. I wasn’t even on the Internet and I certainly haven’t started blogging or writing for any Belgian video game sites. That said, what the magazine Gunk did recently is so positively me that I had to stop, admire it, and then fire off a pithy post to spread the word. What Gunk did, basically, was fake a review of Super Mar...

Nintendo: Wii shortages will last until 2008

For all of the success the Wii has wrought for Nintendo, there is one area where the machine (and Nintendo’s strategy) has been woefully inadequate: production. And it’s going to stay that way. Today, I found an interview at GameIndusty.biz with Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime that all but confirms there will be massive Wii shortages this holiday season. Lest there be any remaining...

The question as to whether or not the US will ever be able to play non-American released titles via Virtual Console has been answered today … super-answered! Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels – NES Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2, this game has previously made only brief cameo appearances in the Western Hemisphere. Now available on the Virtual Console in all of its...

Review: Dragon Blade is worth your $40

Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire is retro gaming bliss made anew with engaging motion-controls. It’s not even close to being one of the most memorable games of the year, but its gameplay, somewhat impressive visuals, and old-school storyline sans superfluous “cheese” make it a worthy purchase. The extremely linear gameplay evokes fond memories from my gaming past; sorta like playing a...

Nintendo Spotting: Accessorizing edition

Oh, how jealously obsessed I am this morning of the fairer sex. What, with the controlling of the hearts and minds of men, and all the swishin’ and hair tossing, how could you not be, right? And then there’s this. An accessory that has me turning positively Hulk smash green with envy because I’ll never get to enjoy them — save a mid-90’s revival of the left-ear-only p...

Of Wiimotes and AA battery shortages

It’s a rare day that you’ll hear me complain about my Wii, and unfortunately today is one of those days. My gripe? Batteries. More specifically, a lack of batteries. For the past two weeks, through a combination of extra work at the office and laziness on my part, I have had no fresh AA batteries in my apartment and, therefore, I have had no fresh Wii experiences. For the first part of...

Endless Ocean – cas-core gaming to the max

I’m a cas-core (casual core) gamer. I pick up games and play them for less than an hour at a time. Some of my favorite games are best played with a friend. Puzzles? Awesome. Story lines? Who needs ’em. So when I read a press release about Nintendo’s upcoming 2008* title, Endless Ocean, my cas-core excitement meter went through the roof. Have you ever wanted to explore the bottom ...

Random theory – Wii game prices

Here’s an random theory to bounce around your brains:  Nintendo was relieved to see 360 and PS3 games come out at $60 a pop because it meant they could continue to charge $50 for their console’s titles. What I’m getting at is whether or not Wii games would be worth $50 if software for 360 and PS3 cost the same amount.  Share your thoughts about this random theory in comments!

Feature: Wii’s third-party predicament

Since the beginning of Sony’s now-fading dominance of the video game industry more than a decade ago, third-party publishers have consistently treated Nintendo consoles as Hyrulians do the scorching sands of the Gerudo Desert. They avoid them altogether. This unfortunate trend began with the Nintendo 64, when a series of controversial decisions made by Nintendo prompted many developers to sh...

Mario, Sonic Olympic events list

It seems like it was Mario and Sonic at the Olympics week, so why not list 18 of the 20 planned events you’ll be participating in as your favorite video game characters? Ok, maybe not favorite, but they are video game characters, right? * Archery * Aquatics – 100m Free style * Aquatics – 4x100m Freestyle * Fencing – Individual epée * Field – Hammer Throw * Field R...

Rygar update: Argus, graphics and Wii controls

I both loved and hated the original Rygar. I played it on a friends’ NES a lot, and we usually ended up screaming at the TV because, as any gamer knows, cussing out a television actually affects gameplay and allows you to beat final bosses. It was also pretty enjoyable nevertheless. And now there’s a “new” Rygar coming to Wii. I use quotes because it’s actually the 20...
