2011 was one heck of a roller coaster ride for Nintendo fans, wouldn’t you say? After coming off what I still consider to be one of the top five games to be released on Wii in Donkey Kong Country Returns at then end of 2010, Wii owners were left with little to nothing new to play until the release of Skyward Sword. Sure there were titles to fill the void such as Conduit 2, de Blob 2, and Kir...
I love this: Zelda HD (at CES this week) is the same tech demo we got at E3 last year, but it still has us clamoring for an actual game with these graphics and features. The coolest part is how the TV screen is completely HUD-less. Hearts, items and the mini-map all show up on the Wii U controller and it all looks absolutely gorgeous. It makes me wonder if HUDs should die once and for all.
So Kid Icarus: Uprising has had a pretty rough game development cycle to say the least. What started off as a 3DS launch title has since been delayed numerous times and is now slated for a March release. In my hands on with the game it was easy to see how fun the game could be, but there was one glaring problem witht the game. Playing it was simply not comfortable. Nintendo seems poised to address...
Mmm, memorabilia. More at Wired
Via Ars Technica, who was a bit frustrated by the lack of new information: The new controller is an impressive thing to hold in your hands. It feels solid and comfortable, and nothing about it marks it as a weak link. The screen itself is bright and beautiful, much clearer than the screen on an iPad, and even small details of the games are able to be seen clearly. The controller’s speakers a...
Kind of a slow news day in the world of Nintendo. It’s dangerous to RSS alone, take this! Oh, and if you’re interested, here is a shameless plug to my new personal blog I just created, Nintentunes.com. Check it out! [Thanks David!]
Case in point: Tiger Woods will not be coming to Wii this year. This isn’t the first time EA has discontinued support for Nintendo. In fact, EA has largely had an unproductive relationship with Nintendo since the 16-bit wars, opting instead to work with Sega and the more favorable margin of the Genesis. At the same time, maybe simulation sports fans are a better fit on other platforms. What ...
Let’s be honest. 2011 wasn’t exactly the Nintendo Wii’s best year. Sales continued to dip, and it suffered a game drought that made even GameCube’s driest days seem prosperous in hindsight. But even so, there were still some great Wii games released last year. Believe me. I really had to look. Check out my picks ...
I live in New Mexico. New Mexico is primarily a desert. Despite this fact, I can hardly remember a winter in recent memory that has been so warm and precipitation free. I mean come on, this year I have been in shorts and a long sleeve shirt for the majority of the season, when in years past you couldn’t catch me without at least three layers on. What’s the deal mother nature! With that...
In an interview with zoomin.tv, Miyamoto discusses last year’s fiasco of a Wired interview and how he is indeed still working at Nintendo, and is in fact working on an original game. It is too early to tell if this new game will be on 3DS, Wii, or even Wii U, but ...
There are only a couple dozen tracks in Mario Kart 7 for 3DS, so I got to thinking about DLC downloadable tracks for the game. I think I’d be willing to pay around $5 for each new “cup” of four courses. Of course, this would create a question around the inclusion of these courses in the online aspect of the game. Do you think this is a good idea and how much would you be willing ...
This week, the smart, handsome, and “hang on every word they say” writers of Infendo had an internal discussion about better than expected 3DS reception. In an effort to defend my still estranged relationship with 3DS, I ranked all major Nintendo consoles as follows, from the most “wow” moments to the fewest (if any): Wii > DS > GameCube > GBA > NES > SNES &g...
