More Capcom titles for Wii inbound

Aeropause is reporting today (Gamasutra)that Capcom is set to flood the Wii with, well, something: Gamsautra: Are the games being developed for the Wii going to be exclusives or re-imagined ports from other platforms? CB: It’s a good question… Capcom has to balance its content between some of its established brands that may come over to different platforms ”“ obviously we have a track ...

SNES beating PS3, 1986 coming back with a vengeance

Yup, this is still news; Nintendo products have dominated yet another chart/top 10 list/gamer’s virgin innocence. The Wii is getting plenty of good press these days, but would you believe the yellow stained SNES is making a comeback? Over at Amazon’s public top 25 bestseller list, things look a bit like this (NOTE: the list is constantly changing): 1.Wii Play2. Wii3. Wiimote4. Wii Nunc...

Wii, the ‘impulse buy,’ remains sold out

I love Schadenfreude, so I love this bit of stock news from Seeking Alpha. Hint: Wii demand persists into February. I visited no less than 6 stores on Monday night – EB Games, GameStop, Best Buy and Target. None of them had the Wii in stock. I spoke to one of the employees at GameStop and he told me that they get Wii shipments from time to time, but the units sell within minutes. Talk about ...

Perrin Kaplan of Nintendo chats with Matt Casamassina – nothing revealed

Matt and Perrin, sittin’ in a tree. Jack’s head just exploded.

Reggie: Wii sales surpassing Xbox 360 matter of "when, not if"

I was wondering what happened to Reggie lately. He probably had to go on vacation in the heart of a volcano or something to recharge, but low and behold he was back at the DICE conference last week with a vengeance. He said he anticipates surpassing the installed base of the Xbox 360 with this sales rate. “The question is when,” he said. “That’s going to be drivenn (sic) by our own sales ra...

Console sales to date

2007 is still very young and there are plenty of titles set to drop later in the year for all systems, I know, but already in three and a half months the Wii has sold more than half the Xbox 360 total to date, and continues to distance itself from the waffle iron. Impressive. Most impressive (and yes, I say that a lot). How VG Charts methodology works here.

More from the Perrin Kaplan show

Perrin Kaplan needs her own sitcom. Or comic strip. Or something. At DICE this week, Kaplan did as Kaplan does and tossed out a few verbal gems to the gaming community. Kaplan says of the two system launches in November: “Well, we didn’t have anyone in line that got shot waiting for our system. So there’s one sign of the different approaches between our two companies … I th...

Sonic’s future is on rails

A quick confession: I don’t think I’ve played a Sonic title since the days of Game Gear. Well, strike that, I asked for Sonic Rush for Christmas in 2005, played it once and never progressed past the first stage. Some may think that’s a act of gross negligence (Sonic is a gaming icon, right?), but I see it as a silver lining of sorts — by not playing Sonic for so long, I mis...

How do you get a job in video games? Ask Yahoo!

I subscribe to Yahoo’s daily Ask Yahoo! column on my Google personalized homepage. It’s a creepy arrangement from which I derive a modicum of joy. Anyway, today’s column answers that age old question: What kind of background do I need to get a job in video games? Besides the obvious “eat your vegetables and stay in school, fool!” answers, it does provide some fun extr...

This week in worldwide sales

Spanning the globe to bring you data, Gamasutra rounds up some new sales figures. Wii’s numbers haven’t changed much this week. Over in DS Land, good ol’ Brain Age jumps back up to #1 thanks to an Amazon.com promotion, apparently. With their rankings disappearing from Nintendo Power, too, no one cares about the GameCube or GBA anymore. Nintendo WiiNorth America: 1. The Legend of ...

Japanese hardware sales numbers

I beginning to think the Japanese are playing a big joke on the rest of us. The weekly hardware sales numbers are that ridiculous (the DS week after week!). This week is no different: 1. DSL – 146,073 – 902,411 – 8,325,7352. Wii – 65,740 – 524,928 – 1,444,5713. PSP – 31,216 – 270,938 – 4,803,0674. PS3 – 18,727 – 155,303 – 612,...

Intense Wii demand persists (in Boston area)

Having waited in a Toys R Us line myself here in the Boston area for a second time in recent months (a second console for the fam), I can attest to this posting from ars technica about the continued demand for everyone’s favorite console of the moment, the Wii. Love it or hate it, the Wii is “it” right now, in spite of whatever flaws currently exist. Here it is, Sunday February 4...
