Those of you who’ve been following the NES Quest from the beginning know that I started it by playing DuckTales. At that time, I already had an original NES copy of the game plus DuckTales Remastered downloaded to my Wii U. Yeah, I’m crazy that way: I often download games, only to hold off on playing them until months later. Well, what better time to play DuckTales Remastered than righ...
The NES Quest continues to move forward, albeit at a rather slow pace. I tried to juggle several games over this last week: Hyrule Warriors, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and StarTropics. I’d say I’ve done an alright job, especially considering the other demands of life, which continue to bombard. So let’s not waste any time! Updates O...
I know it’s been a while since the last update on NES Quest and even longer since the last report card, so this post is long overdue! First, a (very) brief update: I never did get around to playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II with a friend again, so that’s why I’ve been holding off on a report card. But I have had the time to play StarTropics, which is, of course, single play...
Waiting for a space duck to get through those spikes is like waiting for King Zora to move aside in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. As I move on to Bionic Commando, I move away from DuckTales. It’s time for my first report card! Being the first, I’m not sure exactly how to describe it…it’s not quite a game review. Rather, it’s a review of my progress on the game...
How random selection works on NES Quest. As I promised earlier this week when Bionic Commando was revealed to be the winner of the last vote on NES Quest, here’s a brand spanking new set of four NES games for you to vote on (again, chosen at random): Recommended by Justin Riley, Gargoyle’s Quest II and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Recommended by Eric Abrams, Metroid. Recommended by ...
Game: Bionic Commando Release Date (North America): Dec. 1988 Developer: Capcom Genres: Action and Platforming The time for voting has come and gone in the latest competition between Super Mario Bros. 3, Bionic Commando, Maniac Mansion, and Adventure Island. As you can see above, the winner is Bionic Commando, a game I know virtually nothing about. I’m waiting for a copy to come in the mail,...
The DuckTales NES soundtrack is fantastic overall, but I think you’ll agree when I say that no track sticks out more than the game’s Moon theme. Before I ever played DuckTales, I heard that glorious melody and loved it instantly. For good or bad, the Moon theme has seen cover after cover on YouTube. The video above this pos...
A photo of my TV displaying the title screen (hence the glare…and possibly the warped text). Game: DuckTales Release Date (North America): Sept. 14, 1989 Developer: Capcom Genre: Action Platformer It was a close competition between DuckTales and StarTropics, but DuckTales came out on top, so it has the, uh, honor (I guess) of being the game to kick off NES Quest (if you have no idea what I...
Surely it’s common knowledge among Nintendo fans that, in the U.S., Nintendo revived the home console industry after the video game crash of 1983. This was possible thanks to one of the most iconic gaming systems of all time: the NES. I’ve just finished reading the book Console Wars by Blake J. Harris. It doesn’t go into much detail regarding the NES, but just reading about a sma...
The return of Ducktales, even if it is a remake, still has me a little giddy. I have replayed the original a couple of times, and cannot wait to play it again upon release. If only I could have been at PAX East… I may not have been able to attend PAX East this year, but my friend Thomas did. While there, he was able to get some footage of the Ducktales Demo. The short video isn’t p...
It’s official, my wishes have come true! Officially announced at Capcom’s PAX East Panel, Duck Tales is coming back! Duck Tales: Remastered is a remake of the classic 1989 game, and will be released this summer on Xbox Live, PSN, and the Wii U! Sure, it is just a remake, but good sales might pave the way for a new installment. Check out the trailer before, and share your thoughts! h...
