New Pokemon Let’s Go Trailer Shows Off Mega Evolution, Team Rocket

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu Team Rocket

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee is only a couple of months away, and the game keeps throwing us curve-balls. Originally thought to simply be a remake of Gen 1, the games ended up being more of a console variation of Pokemon Go. Now we have the newest bit of news, and it’s an odd one – Mega Evolution will be present in the games.

For those of you who have been living under a Pokemon rock for the last few years, Mega Evolution is a feature introduced in Pokemon Gen 6 that allows your partners to get even stronger. It’s a unique mechanic that really revolutionized the series in a big way. So, why is it so surprising that Mega Evolution is back in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee? Well, simply put, it was originally believed these games were meant to appeal to the casual fan that fell off the games 20 years ago.

The Let’s Go games are chock-full of nostalgia, and the trailer certainly makes that clear. Lt. Surge returns, aloung with the other gym leaders, and even Jessie and James from Team Rocket make an appearance, just like they did in Pokemon Yellow. There’s one scene in the trailer that even looks to be a little cinematic, with the SS Anne pulling up into the harbor before your trainer boards.

Will Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokeon Let’s Go Eevee do enough to appeal to new and old Pokemon fans alike? Or will it fall flat? That question remains to be seen. As the first Pokemon RPG title to grace a Nintendo home console since the Gamecube, it certainly looks to fill a very empty space. But with the promise of Pokemon Gen 8 on the horizon, how will these titles hold up? Only time will tell.
