Lovers of a Metroid 2D revival were hit with a setback today as a reference first pointed out by IGN’s Matt Casamassina was squelched in an MTV interview with Retro. MTV: What’s the story behind the apparent reference in “Metroid Prime 3? to “Metroid Dread,” the rumored but never-confirmed 2D game some fans hope is being made at Nintendo? Pacini: “It’s not what you think it mean...
With all of this Wii talk recently, we often forget that there are other Nintendo systems out there today that need a little love once in a while. No, sorry InvisibleMan, I’m not talking about the Nintendo DS and its plethora of Pokemon platitudes, I’m talking about the original NES! Luckily, Fusion Ring has a list of the 20 things they learned from the NES up today. Here’s a qui...
Here’s a wild one: BioShock could be headed to the DS or the Wii sometime in the near future. It’s not definite by any means, but it makes sense to at least one person: One of Take-Two’s big hopes for the future is the continued growth of the BioShock ‘series’, says analyst Mike Hickey of Janco Partners, who believes that fiscal 2009 could see the game land on the Wii...
Nintendo sent me a set of seven styluses for registering my copy of Brain Age 2 and taking a short survey. They aren’t quite Roy G. Biv approved, but they do add a nice touch of color to my white DS. The classy silver box they came in was a neat surprise as well. Pot of gold not included. Anyone else register their copy of Brain Age 2?
Via the NeoGAF forums, courtesy of HylianTom, we have news today that 1up.com is taking a calculated risk and will not be focusing on Nintendo or those people who own its systems. You can judge the grammatically challenged exchange (not because of Tom, as you’ll see) for yourself after the jump.
Kotaku’s Brian Ashcraft, writing for the Japan Times Online, says that the Tokyo Game Show, while for the most a success, missed Nintendo somethin’ fierce. “I thought it was going to be more out of control, like you couldn’t move,” says 33 year-old attendee Takashi Fujigaki. The floor at TGS 2006 was so crowded that it can only be described like attending the Super Bo...
I know this game technically came out first for the Xbox Live Arcade, but this commercial was too quirky to pass up. Made me think of the cartoon rendition as performed by the Tiny Toons. And besides, it’s a solid game regardless of where you can find it. [Found via 4cr, who asked if this was the best commercial ever. Maybe, 4cr, maybe indeed.]
From the article: “This is not your father’s Zelda. Nintendo’s given the decades-old game franchise a retooling in this new adventure for the DS. Everything you do in Phantom Hourglass is controlled through the unit’s touchscreen ’ none of that joystick business. The new system is simple but brilliant: Green-capped hero Link will walk toward anywhere you tap the stylus. Pok...

A new article over at the Escapist got me a tad excitable today because it features one my favorite genres: the adventure game. More specifically, it deals with how, over the years since text-based adventures were the norm, the adventure game has become, in a word, cluttered. The Escapist’s Atul Varma: Adventure games, at their core, are about solving puzzles. The fun lies in figuring out ho...
Sure it plays a lot like Phoenix Wright, but CAPCOM’s upcoming Wii courtroom game looks exactly like a Harvey Birdman cartoon! Impressive, most impressive. And funny stylish too.
OK, so calling it culture may be a bit over the top. And if there’s anything I’m not these days, it’s over the top. … Anyway, Viva Pinata and Samba de Amigo (sans maracas) are headed to the Wii. Game|Life: Apparently Microsoft isn’t satisfied with putting their first-party, Rare-developed franchise Viva Pinata on the Nintendo DS: they’d just like to concede the ...
