Witness Metal Slug the way it was ment to be played!

I really hope that this concept for Metal Slug on Wii U turns into a reality. How awesome would it be to take your Wii U controller with you into the bathroom and shoot tiny shoulders that appear behind the conditioner?

Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that the Wii U controller does not have a rear facing camera, which would really make it hard to make this AR concept happen. It is a really cool idea though, and I hope that something like this happens for 3DS. Come on SNK, make it happen!

  1. meant!

  2. This video just made more disappointed about the Wii-U because it won’t be able to provide experiences like this. There’s only going to be one tablet controller per system and travel away from the console will be limited to being close to the system to minimize latency. The tablet/controller hybrid is just a prettied up VMU with the brain ripped out. Even VMU’s on the go could play mini-games and miniature applications that weren’t too far from GameBoy level.

Smart phones are bringing the cost of decent ARM chips down considerably in their rise to power, why couldn’t a much smaller screen combined with SSH tech allow for a better Wii-U controller so that we could look forward to experiences like these and 4 Swords? I’m starting to believe that Sony with PS3 and Vita, and Microsoft with 360 and Windows Phone will be where we’ll have to go to get something like Metroid AR or a Mario Kart DS like experience with the advantages of tossing a console into the mix.

  3. that looks sweet! it would be amazing to create custom levels with random crap around my room.

i’d get into the attic, get my old lego set out. i’d go find Fireball Island and play on that. There would be so many cool options. I’d love to just play in the yard, hurdling pets and dodging lawnmowers.

the potential for player creativity AND gaming is strong with this one.

  4. They could do this on the ipad too.

  5. The ipad can’t do 3D , so it wouldn’t be able to create the full screen-turns-into-an-open-window effect of 3DS. It would still be fun, though.

  6. @justadie: The Wii U can support up to 4 Wii U tablets but Nintendo is saying one will be included in the retail box and don’t know if they would sell it (as they’d be “expensive” which menas $80+ each) and maybe they’d go with people bringing over their tablet to a friends house…

  7. @EdEN: Thanks, I forgot that it was due to financial, not technical reasons.

  8. Hmmm, I still think it’s technical issues. Haven’t there been rumors of significant problems getting even one Wii U controller to work wirelessly?
