Youtube Tuesday – Humoresque of a Little Dog

Since he hadn’t played the tune before, Tom takes it at a slow tempo all the way through the first time, rather than speeding up throughout the tune as I indicate on the sheet music, then plays it faster all the way through the second time around to make up for it. He has a bit of difficulty with the second section, so we’ll have to take another crack at making a video of this to get a...

New Game Get gets too many games!

This is actually a pretty amazing week for a Summer release date.  Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box is awesome. Metroid Prime Trilogy is guaranteed awesome. Super Empire Strikes Back is virtually awesome.  And Cursed Mountain at the very least has an awesome title.  Check on in for more new games and DLC for Rock Band & Guitar Hero.

New Game Get hits the gridiron and heads to Tatooine

It’s that time of year again for a new Madden game. Nintendo has a new game out called Fossil Fighters, too. A lot more Rock Band back catalog songs are released while Guitar Hero World Tour has a bunch of free tracks. In other download news, WiiWare gets NyxQuest and a new game from Nintendo called Rock N’ Roll Climber, DSiWare gets a Brain Age minigame, and freaking Super Star Wars c...

Zelda: A Link to the Past tops GamePro’s “30 Greatest 16-Bit Games”

In his “blast from the past” article, author McKinley Noble writes: It’s completely inadequate to say that A Link to the Past is an epic adventure, especially considering the fact that it had to follow the neglected Zelda II from the old NES days. Not only was A Link to the Past a return to some short roots for the series, but it was one of the longest games you could play…...

Nintendo Spotting: Zombie Super Nintendo

Some guy by the internet-name of Skadrums71 decided to carve up his Super Nintendo and make a monster. This “horribly” maimed Super Nintendo features tons of busted up details. Such as carved up plastic, burnt sides, a gaping hole that emits green light and smoke, and of course creepy eyes. If it did not have those creepy doll eyes melted in behind the cartridge slot, I would totally w...

This week’s New Game Get is Legendary!

Where do you even start with this one?  Not only does North America finally get a Starfy game, but Wii MotionPlus debuts with Tiger Woods and there’s Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, not to mention Iron Maiden DLC for Rock Band 2 and new DSiWare Mario vs. Donkey Kong.  Ugh! So much more to see after the break in our New Game Get mega list! [Now updated with even more Rock Band 2 DLC!]

Ten Memorable Super Nintendo Songs, Themes

During my last post about video game music, I selected ten songs from the Game Cube era. This time I did the same exact thing except for the Super Nintendo. Even though the Super Nintendo had 8 channels of 32 kHz 16-bit stereo sound, the system still managed to produce some of the most memorable themes in gaming history. Although, for you to remember the themes you had to have played the games rig...

Unreleased Games: Star Fox 2 (SNES)

Every once in a while a great game series has a game announced, and somehow it ends up canceled. This generally happens once in a blue moon with a popular franchise. The reason it happens could be because of many things, company restructure, new hardware is being released, or even a contract expires. Of the many Nintendo franchises that had a game canceled, Star Fox happened to be one of those rar...

[Nintendo Press Release]  This week marks the launch of Nintendo DSi, the third iteration of the nation’s top-selling portable video game system. Along with it comes the grand opening of the Nintendo DSi Shop, an online store where players can redeem Nintendo DSi Points for a wide variety of games and applications, including Nintendo DSiWare titles. Just as the WiiWare service does for Wii ...

Review: 20 Years of Nintendo Power is entertaining history abridged

Scott Pelland can write. As a staff writer and later managing editor of Nintendo Power for 20 years (1987-2007), I can’t think of a better historian to tell “the history of Nintendo through the pages of the official magazine,” which is precisely what Pelland did in the special edition of 20 Years of Nintendo Power. After reading it, I’m convinced he’s the grandfather ...

Wii-kly Update – Family & Friends Party and Ogre Battle

This week’s new games are WiiWare title Family & Friends Party and the SNES game Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen.  Head past the break for full details. [Press Release]  In like a lamb and out like a lion, or vice-versa? Whether March finds you digging out from a late-winter blizzard or reeling in the spring thaw, the fun is both mild and wild at the Wii Shop Channel. Even th...
