Console war arms race — hurting or helping the consumer?

This console war is truly a slippery slope. On the one hand, people often welcome sharp new graphics and processing speeds with open arms, because we humans absolutely love getting to that next plateau and fulfilling our manifest destiny wherever it may take us. On the other, we have our wallets; those mangy, leather bound bifolded containers of cash that we oft stick on our back pockets, or, if w...

Come see the softer side of game store clerks

Surly not all game store clerks are douche bags? That’s right (as told by one Infendo reader) and don’t call me Shirley! Seth tells the tale: I left work and headed to my local Game Stop… I immediately went up to the clerk and asked if there was any Metroid games left. His response: “Reservation?” So I was out of luck, but I got to talking to him and he was nice enoug...

The Wii and the death of ‘traditional analysis’

What to make of analysts these days and their … analysis. More and more, I am seeing myself shrugging off what they say and seeing the light. Why? Because more and more, I see them as (mostly) men who are used to the status quo, and base their analysis on old models. Have I quoted many an analyst in the past to bolster the case for Nintendo? I have, and I am ashamed. No longer though.

E for All: Consumers don’t really matter?

Basically, all the signs and portents say that E for All — the consumer-focused conference meant to replace E3 — is going to be dead on arrival when it begins in mid-October. There’s no Microsoft presence there, nor Sony, nor Activision, Capcom, NCSoft, Sega, Midway, etc. EA is rumored to be on the cusp of bowing out. The only company of note still committed to the conference is ...

Nintendo and the rising continent

Malstrom is at it again. Today he’s delivered us a series of new (and lengthy!) articles about gaming, Nintendo and the future of the industry as a whole. I think with the outrageous success currently being enjoyed by the Wii and its software (you know, the software that ignoramuses say doesn’t exist yet) this is an especially timely delivery. On a personal note, the reason I enjoy the...

Game Boy Rock – what’s your favorite?

Good ol’ James Kochalka is whipping up a new Disney show theme song with the music built around Nanoloop for the Game Boy. Other artists have created all sorts of music using similar methods. What are some of your favorites?

Why do I defend Nintendo?

Writing on the Internet is a tricky trade. Just here on Infendo alone I’ve been called all manner of vile things that go bump in the night by both the well-informed and the insipidly ignorant and stupid. At the same time, however, I’ve also received my fair share of compliments and I’ve had the truly awesome opportunity of engaging in respectful, thought provoking conversations w...

PAX 2007 – will you be there?

Speaking of Penny Arcade, is anyone from Infendo Nation heading to PAX this weekend?  Let us know and be sure to update us on any Nintendo shenanigans that may occur!

Nintendo Spotting: Chrono cosplay edition

No, that’s definitely not a Big Daddy. He is, however, also from another great game you might have heard of.

Button mashing is primitive, unecessary

“I’ll never, ever push a button to throw a block or make a hard tackle ever again.” That’s what popped into my head as I played a Striker’s Cup match in Mario Strikers Charged the other day. It took until this afternoon to recognize just how important an “a-ha” moment this truly minor event really was.

Nursing homes now requiring live umpire for Wii Sports

This is just hilarious looking… We’ve seen the Wii Sports bug hit nursing homes before, but they now come complete with cranky looking umpires, batting boxes, and even an authentic home plate. Nice!
