Nintendo releases new Wii U firmware update

Nintendo has released a new system update for the Wii U today. The 4.02 update, according to Twitter user @TiLMEN, adds “further improvements to system stability and other minor adjustments.”

This update will be the first of two updates coming to the Wii U, with the second coming in December to add combined eShop accounts with the 3DS. It is unclear what other improvements will be made in the second update.

What do you hope to see in the second Wii U update? Tell us in the comments below.

I hope to see stuff, Harrison…thaaangs.

Walking Dead references aside I’m good with the update in December. I can’t ask for much more than they’re giving us at the moment, I don’t know what could be feasible.

All I really want to see is an update that ties our downloaded content to our account, rather than to our hardware. I lost a ton of DLC and VC titles on my original Wii when it died as I was trying to move content to my Wii-U and now I can’t get it back. I’ve downloaded games on my Wii-U but I’m nervous every time I do it. I don’t want to lose them again.

yeah, they better tie the games to our accounts. I buy all my games through the eshop, so the loss would be catastrophic if my Wii U died.

  4. Dave says:

It would be awesome if they took a page out of Sony’s book on how they handle PSN games and downloaded content. It would only further sweeten the deal if we could get a cross platform deal and also download some of our virtual console purchases into the Wii U/3DS.

Re Mike: You can always send your old system back to Nintendo and they’ll do the transfers for you.
