Club Nintendo Platinum and Gold awards…

The rewards are after the jump, but you can only choose one guys. What would you choose and why?

Platinum has a choice of a download for Punch Out add on content (The first real game add on for Nintendo), or a Mario hat, and Gold status just gets a Calandar… cool I guess.

Yikes I’m not sure which one to pick. I think I am leaning toward the Punch Out!! download. I’m not sure that I would call it “The first real game add on for Nintendo” since it can be played even if you don’t own Punch Out!! it really isn’t add-on content. It is its own mini game. Anyway I think I will get the download since this is the only chance I’ll ever have to get it. I can go on ebay and get the hat if I want but the download can’t be sold, right?

  2. GrumpyDavid says:

Well shoot… I just logged into my Club Nintendo account to claim the Punch Out!! reward and it tells me that Nintendo will email me a code so that I can download the prize. Does this mean it can be sold? In which case which reward will be worth more? Nuts I can’t decide now. What if the code sent by nintendo can only work withthe Wii that the Club Nintendo Account is linked to?

I consider it a game add on because it’s extra game content that was released after the game came out. Maybe it’s the only way for extra content to be released.

For a channel that can access the games save data…? either way it’s weird. I might go with the hat myself, I’m not sure…

Getting something Tangible seems better than something Digital that will eventually disappear over time…

  4. GrumpyDavid says:

Yeah that is a good point about getting something tangible. But I just Ordered the Punch Out!! download. You know I just realized Nintendo published Lonpos (wiiware) and that game has downloadable add-on content that you have to pay for. So even if you call Doc Louis’s Punch Out!! add on content it still isn’t the first. There’s also Rock Band, Guitar Hero World Tour, Mega Man 9 and several other WiiWare title that have DLC available.

  5. Tankooni says:

I am definitely going with the hat. The Punch Out would be nice but I want that hat.

  6. David says:

Sorry, Will, gotta disagree. It’s a standalone WiiWare download.

    It does two things:
    a) rewards people who own a lot of Nintendo games
    b) encourages people who didn’t buy Punch Out to get it

I chose the game over the hat.

  7. GradiusFan says:

Eh… I was actually hoping for the platinum prize to be a SNES controller like how Japan got a Super Famicom controller for VC titles. Oh well.

  8. BlueRocks says:

I’ll get the hat as I have no desie to play Punch Out.

  9. Andrew G. says:

Punch-Out!! is great and the idea of a special download is pretty awesome, but I have to say, if there’s one thing I’ve always wanted ever since I was a little kid, it’s a wearable Mario hat. So for the kid in me (and the adult who isn’t ashamed), I went with the hat.

  10. kira87 says:

I’m stuck with the calander oh well looks pretty cool but if I was platnum I would choose the hat just cause it looks awesome

  11. Mohan says:

So I get a freaking calendar…dammit I should bought another first party game then I could have been styling with the Mario hat.

  12. skeptical says:

Won’t a certain portion of “homebrewers” (aka: PIRATES) be able to rip and copy the Punch-Out!! minigame anyway? Kind of dilutes the exclusive value if so.

Both items will probably be available later on if people really want them, so I’m not too worried about choosing. That said, I’ll still take my sweet time before choosing.

  13. Lord Lemmy says:

The hat, I definately want the hat! I mean I loved Punch-Out!! for the Wii, infact I won a tournament at my local Gamestop about two months ago… But all I got was a lousy over-sized t-shirt… And I think it’d be fun fighting that chocolate loving coach! But I went with the hat, it’s just the inner dork within me saying “I would so wear that every day until the day I die.” I also agree with Will on that tangible thing. I like getting prizes I can see touch and wear! ‘Cept for that over-sized Punch-Out!! shirt…

  14. Drahken says:

HAT! Oh man I am so glad I went and got myself to platinum status at the last minute. But that was with a lot of games I’d registered over the years. There’s no way I can get back to 600 points in just one year. So sad for next year.

  15. The_Julian says:

the hat. That’s one of those things hat you’d kill for as a kid and once the opportunity to get one arrives as an adult, you can’t let it pass you up.

  16. doughboy74 says:

Just ordered the hat. As the Punch Out for WiiWare, it makes me wonder if it will be available later down the line. I also am a member of the Japanese Club where I have received many other prizes. I think my favorite is Star Ten Billion which I haven’t even opened. Come to think of it, I also have Tingle’s Balloon Fight for the DS (had to open and play…great game).

  18. Zachs Kappler says:

Well I agree with Julian, That stuff is special, so I’m getting the hat.
Now if only they had Sonic or Crash stuff along side the Mario stuff, I’d be happy. (Wumpa Fruit model and Gold ring anyone?)

  19. doughboy74 says:

Now that we are on this topic, it makes you wonder what else they would be able to release via WiiWare. If it looks as good as a normal Wii game?!? Check out the screenshots over at Kotaku if you wish.

I would like to see more digital distribution of Wii games. (Yeah I know about the size of the Wii memory but any chance of at least demos?) I have downloaded many from the Nintendo Channel for the DS, but what about the Wii? SD Card menu for demos, anyone?

  20. Fairlady Z says:

I chose the hat. Not interested in Punch-Out. Plus… come on. It’s Mario’s freaking hat.

  21. AC says:

yeah i agree with what someone said here, that japan got a snes control pad for VC games. that would have been better than all of these. my guess is that next year will be even better, maybe like that snes pad. so save up guys for platinum next year!
