Nintendo admits DS shortage

Did anyone try and buy a DS in the three weeks following Christmas? Did you find one? LIAR! Well, maybe you’re honest and just incredibly lucky, because Reggie Fils-Aime has admitted Nintendo did not ship ANY DS Lites to North America during that time period. From Spong: Speaking about hardware sales in January, when the PSP almost caught up with the DS, Fils-Aime said, “Based on worldwide p...

Wii – four months later

Wii has been out for .. no, wait, let’s try this again .. Nintendo has been selling Wii consoles off and on for four months now. Back when I was standing in a line on a brisk November evening, our group had a conversation about when you’d be able to just walk in and buy one. “Spring” was the consensus. Tomorrow is the first day of Spring and yet traditional retailers can on...

Current gen resembles Atari vs. Betamax

Information Arbitrage: I was trolling around YouTube and came upon three gaming commercials – one vintage ad for the Atari VCS 2600 (circa 1977), one current ad for the Wii and one new-ish ad for the PS3. After viewing them it hit me like a brick, and in a more intuitive way then I’ve written about previously: Nintendo has captured the imagination of families and casual gamers in a way...

Reggie says broken Wiimote strap issue largely bogus

More on that Reggie interview with the San Jose Mercury News: Reggie Fils-Aime says many of the claims of broken TV sets, due to flying Wii controllers, are turning out to be untrue. He said, “We have a process where those consumers are contacted and the investigation process goes through. I think it’s fair to say that unfortunately there are always consumers who want to make an issue out of...

Nintendo: No Wii hard drive, new DS peripheral soon

There was the tiniest of external hard drive rumors scampering about the floor over the weekend, but Nintendo quickly stomped that out existence. Then they did the ol’ bait and switch and left a little DS rumor in its place. Nintendo has denied suggestions that an external hard drive is currently in development for the Wii – but confirmed that a new peripheral is on the way for DS. The...

Lack of A-list Wii titles begins to affect Japanese sales

Aeropause is reporting and I am agreeing with the fact that Wii sales have slipped 30% in recent weeks, reflecting a general downward trend ever since launch. It’s a combination of supply chain issues and lack of A-list titles, and now it’s really starting to take hold — the PSP surpassed the great white hype last week (44,495 Wii sold). But let’s stay optimistic, shall we?...

What’s the best game controller ever?

What’s the best game controller to date? And yes, the Wiimote counts.

Overheard on the blogosphere: "Nintendo is the old Sony"

A comment from Game|Life regarding Nintendo’s 54% take of US video game sales in February: So… PS3 is the new Gamecube.Wii is the new PS2. Sony is the old Nintendo. And Nintendo is the old Sony. That’s a compliment considering Sony’s 11 year dominance of the home console industry. Hopefully Nintendo remembers that if/when they become the number one game manufacturer again.

Custom Zelda-themed Wii on eBay

A beautiful fan-modified Wii is on sale over at eBay right now. At the time of this writing, it’s up to $700 with 29 bids and ends in about 8 days. Included in this piece is a custom LED mod for the disc slot as well as backlighting for the Triforce and shield, all of which are powered by the Wii itself (the Triforce backlight even has a quick disconnect which allows the system to still be d...
