Wired magazine – Lose game gut by playing games

A recent article in Wired magazine lists ways to lose “game gut” by playing more games. Some of their tips: Instead of 30 minutes of aerobics (242 calories), play 30 minutes of Wii Boxing (250 calories). Instead of 15 minutes of sex (33 calories), play 7 minutes of Wii Tennis (46 calories). Check out the rest of the article for tips using other consoles.

Wii Needs – smarter third party developers

Just a quick thought about third party games on the Wii: Is the fact that there is a lack of decent third party titles on the Wii the fault of Nintendo for its decision to go low-tech Wiimote control, or do third party developers today generally suck at thinking up new ideas? Not an entirely fair question, I admit — it’s more of a blatantly biased diatribe with no basis in fact —...

Video game consoles as media centers are a failed strategy

Information Arbitrage has a few questions this morning: The runaway success of the Wii, the introduction of AppleTV and the problems encountered by both Microsoft and Sony raises more than a few questions: Does the grand “media center” vision really have legs? Are the high-priced Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles viewed as inaccessible by the casual gamer? Can you get to 100 million in console...

There are still 50-person lines for the Wii

Via the NeoGAF forums: “Q1 is looking like the beginning of an up-cycle year,” said Billy Pidgeon, video game analyst, IDC. “There’s good software movement, but hardware is stalled a bit by short Wii supply and stagnant demand for 360 and PS3. I believe the Wii will continue strong growth although supply continues to be a problem,” Pidgeon said. “I’d like ...

Wendy’s Wii toys won’t clog arteries

And with one swift stroke, Wendy’s has erased whatever fitness gains Americans might have made using the Wii by dragging them in with the promise of Wii-related toys. Damn you, Wendy. Damn you and your square shaped burger patties.

Wii Needs – board games

While games like Uno, Settlers Of Catan, and Backgammon are showing up on Xbox Live Arcade, so far Wii is missing out on board games. Using the Wii Remote to point, click, or even grab a chess pawn seems like a natural match up. Developers could even get silly and have you use a card dealing motion while holding the Wii-mote. Having released Clubhouse Games, Nintendo knows that traditional-styled ...

Business 2.0: How the Wii is creaming the competition

Business 2.0 (my favorite biz magazine) has published the “untold story of how the Wii beat the Xbox, PlayStation.” Behold my copy and paste skills! “Nintendo’s turnaround began five years ago, when the company’s top strategists, including CEO Satoru Iwata and legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, zeroed in on two troubling trends: As young consumers started caree...

NiGHTS control style(s) details

Like my Friday night Chinese food, NiGHTS will allegedly arrive on the Wii in two styles. Takashi Iizuka, lead game designer on the original and heading up the newly announced Wii game: We’re currently designing the game to be played with two control configurations. Our main focus is to design the game to be played with the Wii remote but for those gamers that are more comfortable using a mo...

Miyamoto Edition Gold Game Boy SP sells for $$$

OK, so some of us gamers are trying to get Shigeru Miyamoto onto TIME’s Top 100 people list because we think he’s important and we’re not worthy, etc. etc. But is he $2,157 important? That’s right. The gold SP above sold for $2,157 on April 16 to some “lucky” eBayer. Worth it? I have no idea, but here’s hoping the seller uses some of that scratch to buy a ...

The delay to power-off Wii is annoying (albeit minor)

Is it just me, or is the what seems to be a five second delay when powering off your Wii annoying? It’s not a huge deal, but I feel like I have to wait for my Wii to shut down before I can comfortably leave the room. Maybe its just a small case of geek OCD… Can I get a witness?
