The four best genres for the Wii Balance Board

Games.net has compiled what they believe as the four best genres for the Wii Balance Board, namely rhythm-based games, skateboarding games, fighting games, and party games. It was reported that several developers approached Nintendo at E3 last week with interest in developing “non-fit” games for the peripheral. What genres/games would you like to see make use of the Balance Board?

Rockstar’s Table Tennis coming to Wii

Rockstar Games, a usually shunner of Nintendo hardware, announced today that Table Tennis is jetting onto Wii later this fall. As expected, the game will map motion-controls to digital ping pong paddles, hopefully in a way much more enjoyable than Nintendo’s WiiPlay table tennis game. “By bringing Table Tennis to the Wii and utilizing the motion-sensitive Wii Remote, a new audience can...

WiiWare developers, meet the Wii Balance Board

The speculation and discussion has already started in around the WiiFit Balance Board it seems, with Square/Enix, of all companies, expressing interest in the peripheral today. And that’s to be expected; it didn’t take a video games genius last week to see that there was massive potential beyond WiiFit’s mini-games and BMI indexing abilities. Button-less, hands-free strafing in F...

Will the WiiFit balance board work on carpeting?

Scales typically have some difficulty giving an accurate reading when someone puts it on carpeting. That got me thinking–even though WiiFit calculates BMI, and not weight, there some similarities there. And it need calibration, just like a digital scale. So my question is: Will the Wii Balance Board work on carpeting? The E3 demo (and subsequent hands-on sessions), were all on a solid surfac...

Next Generation’s top 20 games of E3 snubs Metroid Prime 3

Typo or gross negligence? Next Generation’s top 20 games of E3 list doesn’t mention Metroid Prime 3. Nor does the site list the title in the honorable mentions. Now I’m as guilty a Nintendo fanman as the next guy, but this is ludicrous. Even the hardcore gaming blogs, like Destructoid, gushed like a schoolgirl over the look and feel of Metroid Prime. I have yet to read any negati...

Is the Wii on track to outsell the PS2?

As the final ripples from E3 subside this week (whether for good or for now remains to be seen), Nintendo president Satoru Iwata leaves us with some passing comments that he probably wouldn’t have been caught dead making even just four or so months ago. “Sony’s PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved,” I...

Three new titles added to the VC this week: Paper Mario – N64 Paper Mario is a graphically innovative game that breaks from the confines of the RPG genre.
