Professor Layton and the Middle-aged Dimwit

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future may be one of my favorite games this year: Polished, spectacular, classy, funny and intriguing. But it’s sure not helping my self-esteem. Seriously, either this series has gotten more difficult since its first tale or I’m getting dumber. Maybe both. I don’t recall spending hint coins so early or so often seeing that look of disappointment o...

Wii successor to make jaws/panties drop

In a recent interview, Nintendo game designer Yoshio Sakamoto mysteriously hints that “the new Nintendo machine will leave you all with your mouth open.” He then goes on to aptly sum up Nintendo’s long-time philosophy behind console design, hinting that the Wii’s successor will similarly innovate and revolutionize the market (no word yet on whether it will have a feature fo...

In case you missed it: Batman on Wii is good

“A classic 2D brawler that’s easy to pick up and enjoy, and it doesn’t take itself seriously, with plenty of self-parody to go around. The adventure is over too soon, but don’t let that stop you from suiting up.”

Let’s all start freaking out about the 3DS!

Rumor has it Nintendo will launch the 3DS this November in Japan. Since Nintendo releases hardware within the same year across all regions these days, that means the rest of us could get our grubby mitts on the thing in time for Christmas! So what say ye, Infendo? Could it happen? In any case, how excited are you about this thing? Any unbridled enthusiasm you care to share?

Wii anniversaries, continued

To further celebrate the Wiimote’s 5-year anniversary (thanks, Blake!) I thought I’d dig up some old Nintendo YouTube commercials depicting all the fun launch games that came out for the Wii back in 2006 and play them here on Infendo. Enjoy! UPDATED:

How would you describe the primary Wii owner?

This is how I responded to the same question on Game Theory: I’d say the “real” Wii audience is made up of the following: – People who play games for fewer than 5 hours a week total, regardless of genre – People who play games for fewer than 5 hours per *month* total, regardless of genre – People who used to like playing games, but feel overwhelmed by the 17 depressable bu...

On this day five years ago, Nintendo unveiled the Wii-mote

Exactly five years ago, Nintendo unveiled its game-changing motion controller, the Wii Remote, at a press conference in Tokyo. With all that we now know, here’s what the company said on that fateful day:

Japanese Mario All-Stars packaging looks scrumptious

Infendo reader Wii-Luigi writes: “Here are pics from the upcoming Super Mario All-Stars Wii game that’s coming in November to Japan. I will say, the red collector’s box looks sweet. Hopefully the U.S. gets something as nice as that.”

Video games insecure about their place in life

A couple of times each year, some no-name “study” comes along heralding video games as a trojan horse for brain development. Some of the more common headlines: Video games increase hand-eye coordination, video games give you ninja fast reflexes, and most recently, video games augment decision making. They’re all lies, of course.

Lego improves everything: Top 10 most wanted Lego games

There are few perfect things in the world. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Pixar. Walruses. And Lego. Lego sets never have missing pieces. Lego always works, always inspires, and never disappoints’even in videogame form. Lego Star Wars proved that blasters plus exploding Lego equals awesome. Lego Indiana Jones? Not quite as good, but well done. Lego Batman? Solid. Lego Rock Band? Hilariously fun...

Worst Wiiware week ever. Feed the pig!

I hope everyone’s in the mood for another hidden-object game, because that’s the only new title Nintendo’s offering Wii owners this week. To be clear, I’m glad Wiiware exists. It’s a great concept. When the service first launched, I bought every one of the debut week’s games. All were fun, but none held my interest for long. Now, many months later, my enthusiasm...
