50 million Wii owners humiliated after internet commenter tells them to “get a real console”

DENVER’A hush fell over the internet today as one commenter let gloves fly and cut more than 50 million Wii owners to their core, using only four words. “Get a real console,” said Bryce Meikle, an accredited “fun expert” and frequenter of Kotaku, an American video game blog with a Japanese-sounding name. “Who the hell would even play a Wii?” Meikle derisively ad...

Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles – best game trailer ever?

So, we’ve had a few folks saying this could be the greatest game trailer of all time. What do you think? [Sorry about the confusion with the YouTube link folks; not sure why it was changed, but it sort of defeated the purpose of the GameTrailers link]

Deep gambling addiction thoughts

So what’s the over/under on how long it will take Super Mario Bros. Wii to outsell Modern Warfare 2? Ten months? Six months? By Christmas? Let’s set the line. Winners receive only pride, unfortunately.

Let’s-a have-a Luigi catch’a!

Have people already seen this? I don’t care. Watch it again. Took me a moment to figure out what’s happening. Basically, Luigi never touches the ground, so…

New Super Mario Bros. Wii Celebrated in Team Jetpack 104

Back in September, I started doing a web comic. As a shameless personal plug, I want everyone to check this sucka out! In celebration of the release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I am starting a new arc in which the heroes get sucked into the game and go toe-to-toe with Bowser himself! CHECK IT OUT HERE!

Console wars, schmonsole wars: Nintendo facing greatest risk from Apple, says WSJ

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is a self-proclaimed Apple fan, says the Wall Street Journal. He carries an iPhone and uses a MacBook. But he doesn’t consider Apple a direct competitor, despite Cupertino defiance in September, saying the DS doesn’t “stack up” to the iPod Touch or iPhone as a gaming device.

Shorter EA’s Riccitiello: I take it back, Nintendo should make more first party games!

Once upon a time, third party developers complained hell and high water that Nintendo released too many first party games for their systems. The behavior stifled third party efforts, they said, and drove developers away to Xbox and PlayStation land. Waagh waggh waggh. It even became a meme of sorts: Only Nintendo software could sell on a Nintendo system. Oh what a difference a few months makes.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii packaging is red all over

Pretty intense. The red is found throughout, from packaging to plastic to the disc. Kind of reminds me of the all-yellow days of Super Mario Bros. 3. Must be a coincidence 😉 Arrived on the same day as Modern Warfare 2. No coincidence there, I’m sure.

Nintendo will need better casual games to continue their console war

As most of you have no doubt read, Nintendo President Satoru Iawta is concerned that the Wii is in an unhealthy state, and that it is urgent for Nintendo to recover sales momentum. This statement, coupled with recent numbers confirming this sales drop, has left many to point the finger at Nintendo’s Blue Ocean Strategy, which disrupted the video game market by bringing a wider audience into ...

Deep, confusing thoughts

Why did it take 19 years for Nintendo—scratch that, Shigeru Miyamoto—to release another 2D Mario platformer on a console? If I didn’t love Nintendo and the Master so much, I’d almost call the whole mess utterly pathetic. Almost. Editor’s Note: Today’s deep thought is not entirely my own.

New Super Mario Bros. Voicemail Greetings

Our friends over at Nintendo of Canada managed to snag some time with Mario himself to record a few New Super Mario Bros. and holiday themed voicemail greetings. While you can pick one of the three greetings to use on your phone’s voicemail system, it looks like one of the messages might be used by some video game retailer to remind gamers about New Super Mario Bros. Wii‘s imminent l...
