Zelda confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Wii U, 3DS

Princess Zelda has been announced today as the 20th character for Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Zelda, who made her first appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee, will be modeled after her Twilight Princess design. She will join fellow Nintendo princesses such as Peach and Rosalina on the growing roster.

A release date for Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS has yet to be announced, but is slated to hit store shelves sometime in 2014.

Harrison Milfeld is a writer, editor, and freelance journalist from Missouri. Ever since he could walk, Harrison has been an avid fan of the world of Nintendo. For years, he has purchased every one of the company's subsequent products (yes, including the Virtual Boy and eReader). It wasn't until he was a young teen when he bought a PS2 that he began to embrace cross-console relations, a decision he doesn't regret. When he's not gaming, Harrison is looking to break into the magazine journalism industry and realize his dream of becoming a features reporter.

  1. So, Link is based on his Skyward Sword design, but not Zelda?

That’s gonna be a bit weird. I liked Skyward’s design for her.

  2. @BornFlunky I think Link looks very much like he did in Brawl, based on his boots, hair, face, the ties in his tunic and hat…so it stands to reason Zelda would resemble her Brawl counterpart as well.

BUT, I do wish the Skyward Sword designs of both characters had made it into the game. I just think they would fit the world of Smash Bros. better, somehow.

BTW, one of Zelda’s screenshots shows a Phantom from Spirit Tracks/Phantom Hourglass, and she appears to be ordering it to attack Fox! Can’t wait to see THAT move in action! (If it is a move.)

  3. Yeah, not sure if that’s a move or an assist trophy, we’ll find out sometime later. Sakurai’s taking off until the 6th so yay speculation time!

Honestly? Skyward Sword Zelda would be weird…she’s too…innocent and young and looks like she couldn’t fight off one of those evil cat pet things, let alone Bowser.

  4. @MikeIsaPoet

    Too innocent and young?

    You mean like Peach?

  5. Uh, Peach looks nothing young. Especially since, you know, old Italian guy rescues her all the time. Lol.

  6. @Mike

Just saying, no one expected Peach to suddenly launch Giga Bowser off-screen with her ass.

  7. BornFlunky, he’s actually still designed after TP for SSB4. Seriously, take a look at these pictures and tell me he’s still based off of Skyward Sword.

    SSB4: http://static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130807013029/ssb/images/8/8b/Link4.png

    SSBB: http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090703021022/ssb/images/5/54/Link.jpg

Compare the shield, sword, the hand he’s using, the gauntlets, the details in the clothing, the pants, the boots… compare just about everything, and you’ll see that it is, IN FACT, TP’s design for Link that is being used, NOT SS’s.

  8. This might be retrospective, but Peach in general never changes, she’s always been sassy and seemed like she’d slap a dude around. Skyward Sword Zelda? I don’t see it, lol.

  9. Just saying, but I have a comment awaiting moderation. Can someone accept it or whatever one has to do so that people can see my post?

  10. I’m seriously wondering what the deal is with that function, Lemmy. Is it just wonky?

  11. Huh. Well, my circle of friends was wrong, there. Odd.
