Wii U Sales Increase 875% In UK after Xbox One Reveal

CaptureI don’t normally post two articles so close together, however when I saw this news I was intrigued and thought it would make for a great weekend discussion.

It seems that since the Xbox One reveal, Wii U sales in the UK have blown up!  Before the reveal, the Wii U was ranked at about #390 on Amazon’s PC & Gaming Best sellers list.  After the launch, it quickly rose to #48 and increased by 708% on Amazon.com’s UK site.  The overall increase in sales in the UK equated to an 875%  jump!  (Figures as reported by Payeressence, com and gamenesia.com).

I should state that the UK has cut the price from £289.99, ($437.42)  to £219.99 for the basic pack, ($331.83).

Currently, on the United States list, it is ranked 369 for the 32GB version, and 368 for the 8GB version.  I cannot find sales figures for the Wii U beyond May 18th, where it sits in fifth place behind the Nintendo DS (DS sold 13,573 units that week,  Wii U sold 13,024 units in North America).

I have been saying all along that people have been holding off on purchasing the Wii U until they see what both Sony and Microsoft have to offer.  At least in the UK, this shows that the Wii U will be the console of choice (for the time being).  Of course, this could change when the other two consoles actually release.

What are your thoughts of the sales increase?  Do you think we will see something similar in North America in the coming weeks, or maybe after E3?  Will a North American jump in sales require a price drop similar to the UK?  Share your thoughts below!

The sales increase is definitely welcome, though I suspect that the more than likely high entry fee for Xbox 1 and PS4 will play a factor. Most people I’ve talked to that are looking to get a Wii U are waiting for killer apps like Smash Bros and Mario Kart to arrive. With most other people I talked to, the Wii U will not be their only “next gen” console. It’s still relatively early in the cycle, but the Wii U really could use more quality titles to draw people in.

Good for Nintendo, but your headline would be more accurate if it read, “Wii U Sales Increase 875% in UK After 24% Price Cut.” I can’t imagine the Xbox reveal had much, if any, impact on Wii U sales.

Is it difficult to set up your own blog?
I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not sure where to start. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

  13. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  14. Here is m short comment just to say THANKS for the gamer post, that wwas exactly what I (used) to be in search of!!!
