Wii U Pro Controller revealed!

One of the biggest news to come out of today’s Nintendo Direct is the existence of a new controller design for Wii U. Not only will Wii U be compatible with all existing Wii peripherals (Wii Remote, Nunchuck, Classic Controller, and Balance Board), Nintendo today pulled the curtain on a more traditional style controller for the console. The Wii U Pro Controller looks an awful lot like an Xbox 360 gamepad, which in and of itself isn’t a pad thing at all.

What does this mean? Well, multiplatform games should be a snap to program for, for one. Also, it looks like Nintendo has figured out that making it as easy as possible to port over games to their platform will be pivotal going forward. Will each console come bundled with a Wii U Pro Controller, AND a Wii U Gamepad? Who knows, looks like we will have to wait until Tuesday (or longer) to find out.

Show of hands. Who likes this controller design? Looks comfy to me!

Eugene lives in New Mexico and has been a life long gamer since getting his hands on an NES. Always partial to Nintendo, Eugene has made it a point to keep informed on all things Mario.

  1. Everyone is comparing it to the 360, but it looks like the PS3 controller too with the controller lights on the bottom.

But I’m in love with it regardless.

  2. Although I do think it looks like a copy of the 360 controller, I do think it’s a nice direction Nintendo’s going with the controller. I think too many people complain about the button placement, because it looks comfy to me.

  3. This is what M$ and Sony copy. get for copying Nintendo all thous years and thinking they could get away with it! All they did is gave Nintendo free R&D
    ^_^

  4. I honestly find it to be absolutely hideous, and I never want to play anything with it. It looks really uncomfortable, and I really dislike the 360 controller as it is.

  5. I actually like this design since it’s based off the 360 controller which I really like for control of course but also comfort.

  6. It might be a near copy, but who said that is a bad thing. I thought that it is popular thought that the 360 is the best controller made.

  7. Oh, and the OCD in me loves the symmetry in the analog sticks

  8. Looks great to me. The 360 controller is easy/comfortable to hold for me. it is different with both control sticks at top.

  9. I’m just glad it is close to a controller I like and not, say, the N64 style XD.

I like it and hope you don’t have to plug it in to a wiimote to use. I doubt that’ll be the case.

  10. It was stated in the video that this is a peripheral, so I’m assuming it will not be boxed with the Wii U. Honestly I wish this WAS the Wii U controller. I want to see a traditional Nintendo console again. N64 and GCN were the glorious days for me as a gamer.

  11. I will be getting one. Like Cory, the OCD in me loves the symmetry of the analogue sticks. Another reason I prefer the Dual Shock type controllers over the 360’s. I just hope it is more comfortable to use than the current Wii Classic controller Pro. And NO Wii remote dangling off them.

  12. Wii U Controller Details

Does the Wii U Pro Controller have rumble? Are the ZL & ZR triggers analog/pressure sensitive, and do they click when they are pressed all the way down like on the GCN controllers? Are these features on both the Wii U Pro Controller and the Wii U GamePad?

  13. bring back the gamecube controller, still the best controller i have ever touched.

  14. Thanks for one’s marvelous posting! I quite enjoyed reading it, you might be a great author.I will always bookmark your blog and will often come back in the foreseeable future. I want to encourage that you continue your great writing, have a nice holiday weekend!
