Nintendo looking for a piece of the Skylanders pie, Pokemon to be the first NFC enabled game on Wii U

pokemon-scramble-u-uses-the-wii-u-gamepads-nfc-readerKnow that Little rectangle on the bottom of your Wii U Gamepad? Well it actually has a function, it enables NFC on the console. What’s NFC you ask? Well just think the Skylanders portal of power where you place an object with an embedded with a wireless chip near another with the same technology and, boom. Magic happens.

Nintendo will soon use this tech in the downloadable Pokémon Rumble U according to leaked Corocoro scans that have recently hit the internet. There will initially be seven toys available at launch, and they will sell for 200 yen (around $2) in Japan. Pikachu will be available at launch, because why not?!

As of right now, Infendo has reached out to Nintendo for confirmation on a US release but has yet to hear back. Stay tuned for more info as it develops.

  1. I cannot wait to see how Nintendo
Uses this in future games! It would be awesome if this was Nintendos way to introduce dlc. Instead of buying it from the eshoo, just buy the character set it on the game pad and watch your purchase download! I would be on board with this sort of dlc since I would have a physical token to go along with it.

  2. I despise DLC, which is what this is, in physical form. I wonder how much they will abuse this.

  3. XCWarrior, I also despise DLC. Especially paid DLC. I find it very hard to spend real money on something that I can never physically own. However, IF they were to offer DLC through the purchase of a game themed figurine (like the Skylanders figures) I could get behind that easier. It would still be hard for me to spend the money, but I could at least justify it a bit more.
