1 New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Sure, you could say it’s too easy or too hard or doesn’t have an online mode, but you have to admit it’s great to be back in the Mushroom Kingdom. Picking up where the classic 2D adventures of Mario and Luigi left off more than 15 years ago, New Super Mario Bros. Wii isn’t just an homage to its predecessors. Step out of single player mode and add some friends for the ultimate insane party game of 2009 and beyond.
Honorable mention this year goes out to the WiiWare Bit.Trip series. This is 8-bit insanity and some of the most difficult games we’ve played since Mega Man 9 brought us to our knees last year. Released too late to qualify this year was the intriguing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
