EA launches ‘casual games’ division

225_cards.jpgIn another sign of the times, software giant EA has launched a new division, called the EA Casual Entertainment division, which according to EA will be dedicated to “developing and publishing games for consoles, PCs, handheld devices, and mobile phones.”

Kathy Vrabeck will be president of the division, and said this:

All over the world, consumers are playing games that don’t require hours of intense concentration. The common denominator is casual fun. Whether it will be playing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on the Wii with the family or downloading Madden NFL 08 on a phone, quick-to-the-fun games are bringing new players and new demographics to interactive entertainment.

I’m sure these new titles will have all the same spit and polish we’ve come to appreciate and expect from other EA games and genres over the past few years. Oh, and there will be a gazillion sequels. And some kind of WWII solitaire mash-up game, because you just have to have a WWII themed game in your lineup to succeed these days.
