Could Nintendo continue its business on the handheld market alone?

The common trend that follows Nintendo’s history is they always perform better in the handheld space while their home consoles drag behind. The main reason for this seems to be third party support is easier to garner for portables then their homebound counterparts, the key example is Square Enix, when they jumped back on board the Nintendo train after the Final Fantasy VII debacle (then rubb...

In 1998 Nintendo released the decade defining Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time which has one of the most recognizable soundtracks in video game history. In 2000 Nintedo released its successor Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, utilizing the 4 MB RAM Expansion Pak the game has a smoother framerate as well as more detailed textures and lighting, but the music is where things get more interesting ...

Aonuma: “Recent Zelda games have been rather linear”

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo 3DS has been praised for not only its call back to A Link to the Past but its departure from the usual norms of the popular franchise (item renting and choosing dungeon order, to be exact). However, aside from a few drastic changes, longtime Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma hopes to change more for the series’ betterment. In an interview ...

Remix Showcase: Final Fantasy VI Aria di Mezzo Carattere

Back in 1994 the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was at its height when Squaresoft released Final Fantasy VI. The game carried one of the most revolutionary pieces of music written at the time being an operatic theme. So advanced, in fact, that the Sony developed SPC700 sound chip couldn’t actually produce a vocal track. This remix maintains the spirit of the original piece while pushing...

Weekend Discussion: Constructing a Console

To quote  Tom from Toonami, “I’m back bi…”well, you know the rest. I know I have been away a while, and some of you might miss me. So, before heading right into this weekend’s discussion question, I thought I would update you on what I have been up to.  For starters, I am not only spending time with my wife and kids, but I am also working full time, going to school fu...

Review: BLOK DROP U (Wii U eShop download)

Don’t let the simple shapes and colors of BLOK DROP U deceive you: the game is very worth considering for any Wii U owner with a spare $2 on their eShop account, and here’s why. BLOK DROP U is a physics-based puzzle game developed by one-man team RCMADIAX, in which the player is tasked with using the GamePad’s touch screen to destroy all the grey bloks in a way that guides the sm...

YouTube Spotlight: Why You Should Buy a Wii U in 2014

I don’t always agree with online gaming site GameSpot, particularly concerning their decision to award The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword a 7/10 score, but there’s always something to disagree with, and often something to agree with when it comes to any online publication. Today’s YouTube Spotlight video may seem optim...

Another reason for those who haven’t already jumped on the Nintendo 3DS bandwagon to do so has been revealed here in North America in the form of a Yoshi-themed Nintendo 3DS XL system. Launching alongside Yoshi’s New Island on March 14, the system sports a light green hue with Yoshi on the front and “a series of cute Yoshi eggs on the back.” Oddly, the new model will not co...
