Within the first 48 hours of launch, he United Kingdom purchased 40,000 Wii U Units. The Deluxe model was the favorite amongst the buyers. Stock issues seemed to plaque the market as many retailers sold out quickly. As with the North American launch, stock levels are expected to replenish throughout the holiday season and level out after the new year.
With the successful launch, there was a bit of disappointment, none of the Wii U games made it into the top ten charts for the UK. Nintendo Land came close at number 11, while New Super Mario Bros. U made it to number 14 and Zombie U made it to seventeen.
On the bright side, of the top 40 games in the UK, exclusive Wii U titles make up ten of the top 40. Analysts claim that established multi-platform releases might have impacted the top ten, since people already own the other consoles. Instead of purchasing a new system and Just Dance 4, they could just buy it for their existing 360.
Due to limited quantities, the sales and ranks on the top 40 are understandable, and I would expect better overall sales as stock levels stabilize. I know we have some European readers out there, what are your impressions of the Wii U?
