Trailer: Disney Infinity revealed for all consoles

Disney Interactive today announced Disney Infinity, which will release for all platforms, including the Wii U and soon-to-be mobile devices, in Summer 2013. The game will be a sandbox style environment that combines the best of Disney and Pixar’s own worlds and creations. Infinity can be best described in the same vein as Skylanders and Minecraft, in which customization and the use of collectable toys are used to enhance the overall experience. 40 collectable interactive pieces will be available at the game’s initial launch, alongside 17 actual character figurines for players to use in Toy Box mode.

  1. This is a really cool idea for a game. Skylanders meets Disney. 🙂 This game woudl be really awesome on the Wii U withthe NFC feature on the Gamepad. I can see Nintendo really pushing this at E3 this year along with other games that take advantage of this feature. Imagince just swiping the figures on the NFC button on the Gamepad and they appear on the tv and no need for the portal. I could see Nintendo maybe getting involved with this a well and adding their franchise characters along side the regular Disney ones. Imagine Mario with Mickey, or Link with Captain Jack Sparrow battling enemies This coudl be the killer app game for the Wii U and the reason to own one.

  6. A big name like Disney might push Activision to make better Skylanders games. Don’t get me wrong…they are terrific fun, but they are much too short. Kids collect all these cool toys and then drop another 60 bucks for 10 hours worth of game. My son is losing interest in his Skylanders collection because there’s only so many times you can play through the same game doing nothing other than leveling-up new characters. Disney’s toy box mode seems like it might address this problem. Hopefully it will push Activision to make an open-world Skylanders game with hundreds of hours of play. If they don’t address the lack of content, they may as well start digging a giant Skylanders grave.
