Following continued evidence of a well predicted Wii price drop, Square-Enix CEO Yoichi Wada made his own prediction this week to the Financial Times: “New Wii” by 2011. The prediction seems to have come following Mr. Wada’s commentary on Project Natal and Sony’s upcoming motion controller.
“Present game machines already have a lot of functions: they are a network terminal, a Blu-ray or DVD player, and a gaming machine. Compared to these three pillars, the [new motion] controllers are quite limited, so the impact may be small. They are an extension of the gaming function.”
Wada went on to say that he expects a “new Wii” by 2011, a hardware upgrade to match that of the Xbox 360 or PS3 – he also suggested that the new console may have a new controller. Wada’s statement sounds strikingly familiar to the WiiHD prediction analyst Micahel Pachter makes every single year.
Would a HD capable Wii with a Motion-Plus built in controller be enough for you to upgrade?
