Pokémon Black & White 2 is a Hit in Japan

Pokémon Black and White 2 are easily two of the most anticipated games of the year.  Here in North America, “Fall 2012” will not get here soon enough.  We may have a couple more months to wait, however Japan saw the release on Saturday, June 23rd.

Sales on the release date surpassed all first day sales of the year, so far.  With an astonishing 1,618,621 copies sold the games have quickly become not only the fastest selling game of the year, but also the only game in 2012 to surpass 1 million in sales on day one.  Pokémon Black and White 2 has also become the third fastest selling DS game of all time.

Although the sales numbers were stellar, we have to take a moment to compare it to the original Black and White game’s sales.  At launch, the original had sold just over 2.6 million copies during the first weekend.

Now that Pokémon Black and White 2 have been released in Japan, are you more anxious for the North American release?

    I cant see this game outselling its immediate predecessor, but I am excited for it none the less. Im more excited for what they are cooking up for the eventual gen 6 3DS versions. Although i am going to be really dissapointed if they stick to grid movement and 2D animated sprites for battles in the next gen games. I know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but as an older Pokemon player, as fun as the games are, I think they should make a more modern game. Full 3D movement. Keep the turn based battles but have 3D models and 3D effects. Special areas for co op play. And an updateable Pokemon Stadium/battle revolution game for the Wii U to battle it out on the big screen, updateable so if newer games are released new pokemon can be added.

    Adza, I completely agree with you on the 2D sprites and Battle System. I would love to see it updated. And, of course, my wish for the 3DS installment in the series is a PokeRPG! I truly believe that the 3DS is the perfect platform for the RPG 🙂

    I think this is going to be another one of the ole.. I don’t really want it, until it comes out.. then I’ll get it… Sort of deals..

    I liked B/W, but after expecting a 3ds Pokemon, and just having played Black barely 6 months ago… idk if my body is ready..

    i am insanely excited for this game…as for a 3ds version, i think we will be seeing “pokemon ruby and sapphire 3d” before anything else…

    Yellow Bear;
    We’ll see a R/S/E remake in the 3DS life cycle. If you know the trend like I do, you’ll know though that a 6th gen is at least a year and a half away, and the remakes are at least a year after that.

    I’m not sure if this is the same for everyone (sometimes posts here even go so far as to have random characters surrounding the titles for me), but if I’m correct, you made the wrong accent.

    It’s Pokémon, not PokÈmon/Pokèmon. Just a tip!

    In other news, Sky is Blue, Water is Wet!

    More interested in how Pokemon Conquest is doing. I am loving it. It combines my two favourite games, Pokemon and Fire Emblem.

  8. wakko1337 says:

    ^Except Fire Emblem has nothing to do with the game.

    ^ How not?

    Turn based, strategy, team based, grid boards. If you like Fire Emblem you will probably like Pokemon Conquest. I do and I do.
