When the 3DS was first announced, I was skeptical. I had always seen 3D as a gimmick and wrote it off. Sure, I had to add the 3DS to my collection, and when I received it I was blown away! Since first turning the unit on, I was a raving fanatic, but still a lot of people I know wrote it off.
I loved seeing my friends reluctantly picking in up…then not wanting to put it down! It seems as though most of the population felt the same way after playing.
Japan has just exceeded the 8 Million units sold mark in Japan, which is eight times as many sold as the Vita! A large contributor to the sales is the launch of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which has sold over 700,000 units itself, and urged along sales of the handheld. It is also interesting to point out that 3 of the top 10 software titles are 3DS titles. See below for the top ten (Note this is based on the latest Media Create Sales chart, the numbers in parentheses are lifetime sales figures):
01. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Nintendo) – 721,786 / NEW
