My home network is not wireless anymore, so I’ll grab one of these on day one (or at the same time as Mario Kart DS and/or Animal Crossing).

Wireless routers or access points can be had for less than $30, and don’t tie up a PC. Like this :

for $17 shipped. Then anything in your home can use it, not just your DS.

Exactly like tom said, nobody needs this. This is more expensive than a router and it does less. I don’t understand why anyone would buy one when you can get a router for less and then use any other wireless products with it that you may purchase in the future.

I like how you’re all saying you can get a router for less when you don’t even know how much it costs. Although I do agree it’s pretty pointless if you have a router that will work for the DS.

I need a wifi router. I would have been able to play PS2 online, but about 2-3 years ago we moved the computer to the opposite end of the house. With this simple wifi router, I’ll be able to play my DS online, and depending on the range, I’ll probably be able to play my Revolution online. I’ll be picking one up on Dec 5, when Animal Crossing ships.

I’d like to add this bastard is about 10$ more than I had thought it’d be, though an American price has yet to be revealed (Europe and Japan-about 30-35$).

It’s a cool idea. Who knows how many people have broadband, but not WiFi.

I’m just glad to see Nintendo acknowledging there IS such a thing as the internet. (Esp. after the Gamecube! Have they learned their lesson?)

Hey, those aren’t for you guys, people who KNOW what a “wireless router” thingamajig is. No, it’s for all those people who don’t know the meaning of Ctrl-Alt-Delete, yet STILL want to play their animal crossings and mario karts over the net. Optional simplicity.

I have a wireless router and a bridge in order to bring my Gamecube online to play PSO since my DSL line is in my office and my consoles are in the living room. But for those who don’t have a set up like this, I can only say that as always Nintendo is being user-friendly. This connector is perfect and it also allows you to use it anywhere – the internet cafe, school, work, etc…

I plan to get one and keep it in my DS case!

I’m gonna get one and keep with my laptop for Hot-Spot access when I’m not at home.

My only concern regarding access on my home network has to do with the fact that I don’t see a MAC address anywhere on my DS. I use filtering on my network, and this USB dongle may be what I need to bypass it, rather than opening my network up.

I saw a comment somewhere that the Nintendo WiFi USB adapter will not allow non-Nintendo devices to connect, so it would not allow a regular wireless laptop to connect. Someone should confirm/refute this.

For those who want simplicity (and don’t have a Macintosh….the connector is apparently Windows XP only), the Nintendo connector is the way to go. All others should just buy a wireless router and unwire their entire house. Wireless router installation has gotten A LOT simpler. On a recent install, I just followed the included instructions, which mostly consisted of clicking buttons, and it came right up (this was for a Linksys WRT54G.)

FYI, if you bring the Nintendo connector to your local internet cafe, you either need USB access to their systems or bring your own computer.

The wireless stuff has me psyched. Can’t wait to race my friends with Mario Kart DS.

I like that… thing. I like that it’s prodeble. But if it works poor and it’s more money than the router, I might get that. So I’ll get one of them on December 5th.

I’m not sure what the Euro price is, but if it is as expensive as you say, I would think that it would be from that revenue that Nintendo actually pays for the network thing. I’ll probably just get it if it has a “jam-it-in-a-usb-slot-and-it-works-nice-and-simple-woo” function, as I don’t have a wireless router and I can’t be bothered scuttering about with them.

okay maybe I’m missing something…maybe not… Do you just plug it into you computer (one with internet access?) and then click a few buttons then you can access the internet on you DS? Am I understanding this correctly? Or would I need more software?
