Mercedes-Benz DLC coming to Mario Kart 8 August 27

The free Mercedes-Benz DLC that was promised for Mario Kart 8 owners in the west finally has a solid release date: August 27. Nintendo announced this today and even included a trailer to go alongside it. And there isn’t just one new kart, but three headed our way. The first is the 2014 GLA, “the compact SUV of Mercedes-Benz”; the second is the 1934 W 25 Silver Arrow, “the legendary formula racing car”; and the third is the 1957 300 SL Roadster, “the dream sports car.” Even more good news: the new karts will come with a variety of paint jobs. See them in action for yourself in the trailer above.

In addition to the Mercedes-Benz DLC, an update for Mario Kart 8 (also coming on the 27th) will give players the option to display a course map on the TV screen while they race.

What do you think of the upcoming DLC? Do you think Nintendo will release more Mario Kart 8 DLC in the future and, if so, what would you want to see? Sound off in the comments below.

In addition to being a girl gamer, Holly prides herself on being a red-head. Consequently, the blue shell in the Mario Kart series is her natural enemy. Don't worry, though: she still loves Mario Kart and is very good, despite the occasional blue shell-sabotaged race. Like any Nintendo fan, Holly also loves Zelda, Pokemon, Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, name it. But she'll try just about anything (besides horror games) and has a soft spot for unique, little-known rhythm games like Rhythm Heaven and Samba de Amigo. NNID: Aeroweth

  1. I really want to see battle areana pakcs tat includes block fort from the N64 version as well as maybe new cups to race on.

  2. Battle arena DLC packs, sorry , typo.

  3. Yep, I concur with Tc Ase.

    I’d like good battle arena’s. I actually wrote this in Nintendo’s poll about Mario Kart. I hope they read them 🙂

    I do like these DLC’s, though I wouldn’t like too many ‘real’ cars messing up the cartoony atmosphere of the game. So Nintendo has to thread carefully, I think. But I somehow get the idea they won’t jump into the DLC madness. ^^;

  4. There was a poll? How did I not know about this?!

  5. It was sent out by Nintendo through e-mail. Though it could’ve been just for European gamers, that I don’t know 🙂

  6. I agree. They did a lot of good things with Mario Kart 8 but battle mode was not one of them. I don’t think the courses are well set up for battles. Battles need to take place in a more enclosed area rather than a linear track.
