05. Pandora’s Tower (Ganbarion, Nintendo)
Among the Wii games left to be excited about, this one is especially exciting.
Well, kind of.
An original action RPG from the team behind the One Piece games, Pandora’s Tower caused a bit of a stir when it was unveiled in January. To a Wii audience hungry for new releases, the promise of a brand-new Nintendo IP with similarities to the God of War games was more than enough reason for optimism—if not outright celebration.
Of course, its promotional images may or may not have had something to do with the hype, as well. Does a seemingly topless girl with a sexy back tattoo really appeal to the demographic to which games like Pandora’s Tower are primarily aimed?
I guess the verdict is still out.
Speaking of things we can’t be sure of, don’t get too excited about Pandora’s Tower. Although the game released last month in Japan, Nintendo has yet to confirm a North American release—and its chances seem to be dwindling. But for an original Wii game with an epic story and the action-heavy gameplay you’d expect from Kratos or even Shadow of the Colossus, Pandora’s Tower is worth staying hopeful for.
