This is a follow-up to my previous article on the slim pickings on the official specs that were released by Nintendo yesterday. VGLeaks was tipped off by an anonymous source about a full specs sheet for the upcoming Wii U. Just a note that these specs have not been confirmed by Nintendo and should be taken with a grain of salt, but it does give insight on what is in the new console. These are details that surround dev kit units and specs will most likely change by the time a retail unit is released.
Main Processor
- PowerPC architecture
- 3 cores
- 3MB aggregate L2 cache
Main Memory (RAM)
- Up to 3GB RAM on dev kit units. Note: retail units are to have half of that amount
Video/Graphics
- Modern unified shader architecture
- 32MB eDRAM, supports 720p 4x MSAA or 1080p rendering in a single pass
- HDMI and Component outputs
Audio
- 120MHz audio DSP
- 6 channel uncompressed audio via HDMI
- stereo/mono audio via GamePad
Network
- 802.11 b/g/n
Peripheral
- 2 USB slots (It was specified that there are 4 USB slots on the retail model)
- SD card slot (Did not specify if it supports SDHC or SDXC format although I suspect it will at least support SDHC)
Storage
- 512MB for System
- 8GB for Apps
It’s definitely got some muscle behind that box, but the paltry 8GB of memory has got me worried. I’m gonna have to stick in a massive SD card in there to make up for that!
