Forget about tomorrow, look what we’ve got now!

Wii Console

Reggie’s recent discussion of the future successor to Wii has once again kicked the sleeping bear that is the HD debate and what Nintendo has done wrong this generation (very little if you were to ask the board members) and how they can correct it.

I can’t help but feel that all this debate is a little premature though. People are up in arms, waving pitch forks in the air and all ready to march on Kyoto if Nintendo don’t give them what they want next generation. But what about this generation? I don’t know about anyone else but I still haven’t had time to sample all the delights currently available to me on this Wii, not to mention new releases due in the not too distant future, before I even think about the next console. I’ve yet to finish NSMBW, Metroid Prime 3 and Okami. I’m still battling my way through MadWorld, The Conduit and deBlob. Meanwhile I’m distracted from that lot by the endless replay value of Mario Kart, Smash Bros. Brawl and the two Wii Sports games. Hell there’s still Gamecube games I haven’t cracked (if anyone has some sort of secret drug that will heighten my reflexes so I can finally finish Ikaruga I’d be most grateful). This is all discounting the games that are out but that I’ve yet to buy for my Wii; PunchOut, Zak & Wiki and Muramasa all spring to mind. Throw future titles like the new Zelda, Metroid Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Steel 2 and any other fantastic games that we don’t even know or haven’t even been conceived yet and there’s plenty to keep us occupied. Oh and there’s all the great WiiWare and VC offerings as well.

It would appear we’re so focused on what we want 2 or 3 years down the line that we can’t see all the fantastic games jumping about and screaming at us from under our very noses. Say what you want about Nintendo’s hardware this generation, there’s a plethora of great titles out there, we just need to use the time we currently dedicate to bitching about what we don’t have to go play them!

Anyways, enough of my ranting, I’m going to go play NSMBW. Or Smash Bros. Actually I might break out Virtua Tennis for a bit. Although I’ve still got that boss battle on Metroid to do”¦
