Celebrate Game Boy Advance’s 10th birthday today with these 10 games

Ten years ago to the day, Nintendo released the Game Boy Advance. Slightly more powerful than a Super Nintendo, the handheld was and still remains the epitome of sprite-based gaming. It’s awesome, even in a post Wii, DS, Xbox, and PS3 world.

To commemorate, Nintendo Power this month named what they believe to be the system’s 10 best games, as follows:

  1. Metroid Zero
  2. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
  3. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
  4. Astro Boy: Omega Factor
  5. Zelda Minish Cap
  6. Wario Ware Inc
  7. Drill Dozer
  8. Gunstar Super Heroes
  9. Metroid Fusion
  10. Advance Wars

In fact, the GBA is substantially more powerful than a SNES. It runs at a much faster clock speed, and its hardware is capable of sprite transformations, as opposed to just a background.

Good list. Played over half myself.

    #11 FF6 🙂

nostalgia… this was my first ever gaming console. bought it on launch day, which apparently was ten years ago to the day.

  4. Kale says:

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced seems to be missing from this list… But I am thrilled to see Zero Mission on top (I’d love to see another Metroid done with the same art style but on the 3DS).

    Yah FFTA and Golden Sun.

A good list of original GBA games. One big gap is Kurukuru Kururin – not sure if this was released in the US. Was the 2nd game I got for my GBA in the UK and I played it to death!

  7. Holly says:

“Named what they believe to be the system’s 10 best games”? Does this mean that you would have made some changes to this list, Blake?

I own two of those games… Need to go back and replay them. Might even pick up some of the others.
