Nintendo, industry surge to $1.1 billion in sales

Just to build a bit on Blake’s “Nintendo dominates sales AGAIN” post from yesterday… Nintendo, in addition to dominating the sales numbers for North America with the DS, Wii, and even the GBA (which beat the PS3 in sales), has helped boost the overall sales of the video game industry to over $1 billion dollars. And yes, the PS2 and God of War 2 also helped considerably. I&#...

Nintendo Spotting – MegaMan fights dirt, pigeons

Wii – five months later

Another month goes by and you still can’t buy a Wii without playing the camping and hunting game. Great new games like Super Paper Mario are starting to come out and developers are starting to really take notice of the slim white box. That said, here are a couple things about Wii that have been on my mind lately. I really thought the interface for Wii would be a lot sleeker and faster. I lik...

Economist: Nintendo made a "colossal blunder" on Wii manufacturing

The Freakonomics blog has a post up today examining why the Wii currently has a national availability of 2-5% some 5 months after its launch. The article calls Nintendo’s inability to supply demand “pretty unusual” and that retailers are benefiting as consumers continually return to stores to try and find the system. What’s more, Wii shortages hurt game makers, especially w...

Wii is too loud

The volume on my TV runs on a scale of 0-100. When I watch cable, I set the TV at 50 and all is well. If I turn on my Wii, I have to turn the TV down to 10 or less before the Wii Menu’s chimes begin their droning and alarm the neighbors. My GameCube was similar, but Wii seems to be even louder. Is it just me, or is the audio on Wii just too loud?

Nintendo hardware still hot in Japan, software cools

The people of Japan must be using DS Lites to construct new buildings, because they’ve bought up more than 500,000 a month, every month, since April 2006. Are there really that many people?! The software scene troubles me however, because that’s where the real meat of the industry is. IGN: According to Enterbrain’s Famitsu Marketing Data Service, in March 2007 Nintendo had the be...

Pokemon preorders reach 533,000

It was merely raining Pokemon here at Infendo yesterday, but today the sky is opening up a torrent of Pokemania that looks to take over the U.S. A dangerous flood of Pikachu, Bulbasaurs and Jigglypuffs is imminent. To pimp this publicity for all its worth, Nintendo fired off a press release today touting some impressive pre-order numbers for the DS titles, Diamond and Pearl. With the new games set...

Neo Geo VC games to clock in at 900 pts?

An IGN interview with SNK’s Ben Herman, via Aeropause: With NES at essentially $5 and Super NES at $8, we’ll be putting our games at just a little above the Super NES point. Neo Geo games for $9-$10? Who’s feeling the love this morning?

Nintendo selling Wiis faster than the DS (but not as fast as GBA)

A few numbers for some context (though anything can happen). Keep in mind the DS wasn’t selling even close to what it’s doing at the moment. Just look at that slope get steeper as time progresses. (via Digg)

Jet Black sees Wii, smells money

There’s no word yet on exactly what type of games Jet Black, a cadre of former EA guys, will be creating for the Wii and DS, but they’re committing to something. The independent studio will focus solely on Nintendo hardware, creating new and licensed products for the Wii and DS. “With the launch of our new studio we’ve brought together all the key elements to develop top ga...
