Best Mario Bros. Soundtrack

Although it wasn’t the best Mario game, the Super Mario Bros 2 soundtrack was probably my favorite. Granted, the first game has that definitive sound, but the second one is just so darn catchy. Love that hook.

So what’s your favorite Super Mario Bros. soundtrack?

  1. Definitly the original Super Mario Bros, and Group X’s version of that soundtrack with their song,
    ” Mario Twins.”

  2. For an 8-bit machine, the NES kicked some serious jams. My favorite for the Mario Bros. was Super Mario Bros. 3 .. it had those cool sampled percussion hits (like bongos in the desert and that awesome “BUM-bum” drum in the level with all the Thwomps).

  3. I think you’re right- mario 2’s soundtrack was a bout as catchy as they get. just hearing it again makes it feel…. like spring in the mushroom kingdom.

  4. Definitely the Minibosses version of SMB2.

    enjoy 😀

  6. You do realize that Mario Bros 2, wasn’t an actually Mario game.
It was something called Doki Doki Panic, and they just inserted Mario Bros Characters into it.
The real Mario Bros. 2 wasn’t released over here. The music is catchy but it isn’t true Mario music.

  7. It’s not like we’re talking about Koji Kondo’s repetoire, u nitpicky geek. Mario 2 is a Mario game in America. We allll know about the switcheroo with Mario 2, ur not enlightening us. If you wanna slob on Japan’s knob, do it elsewhere.

  8. Dang, yo.

  9. Yeah.. and going by Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doki_Doki_Panic

“Even though it was not originally conceived as a Mario game, Shigeru Miyamoto had a larger involvement in this game than he did with the actual Super Mario Bros. 2 (known in the U.S. as The Lost Levels) which was released in Japan. Lost Levels was directed by Takashi Tezuka, the programmer of the original Super Mario Bros, but due to its high difficulty level, it was never released in its original form in the United States.”

So really, it’s more a Mario game at it’s soul then the Lost game.

  10. Man, Rollin’s layin the smack down…

  11. Also of note from Wikipedia:

“The character select and overworld music is much shorter in Doki Doki Panic. Super Mario Bros. 2 has a new section added to where the music would originally loop.”

So, some of the music was indeed created just for the Mario version of the game.
