“Window of Opportunity” now open for third parties on Wii, DS

More evidence today that Nintendo’s allegedly sour press conference and subsequent lack of games in the remainder of 2008 is, as the Joker says, all part of the plan.
“I think Nintendo may be giving the software publishers a window of opportunity, probably a few quarters, where third-party games may be higher profile in stores. I also think part of it may be simply where we are in the development cycle for Nintendo first-party titles.” - Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian
More at Edge. There’s comments from third party developers who smell some blood in there, too.
This makes sense if you consider the mountain of money Nintendo sits on today, and goes hand-in-hand with previous Reggie comments about encouraging third party development on Nintendo systems. Of course, come early next year, with the arrival of Wii Sports Resort, MotionPlus and possibly Pikmin 3, all bets are off. It’s all about the money, in the end ![]()

Hey, I said the same thing on Infendo Radio 112!

@ DAVID!
Nice Ad >_< haha
Seriously, though, its true. Nintendo is developing titles and will take a while, to get them out. For now they are just going to give us a couple of things here and there, and let promising 3rd party games shine.
I dont know if this was planned by Nintendo or not, but either way, it comes at a great time (read: the time developers are pushing the wiimote and wii specs, hopefully making great games)

No crap they spent a good part of their conference talking about 3rd parties.

If Nintendo is honestly laying low to give 3rd parties a shot at the lucrative holiday spending, they deserve a tip of the hat. Everyone complains about having to “go up against 1st party”. Well, maybe NIntendo has been listening. But even so, don’t expect it to last too long third parties!

I wonder if Nintendo gave them an appropriate heads-up before E3 that holiday 2008 would be low-key for 1st party titles. If not, it’s may not be enough time for 3rd parties to respond with quality games.
That being said, so far, the 3rd party titles are looking good.

@ El Hajjish
Based on the Conduit, CoD 5, Fatal Frame, Monster Hunter 3, and stuff like the new All Play brand from EA to mention a few… im guessing yea.
The games look great, use the wiimote at a greater level and feauture wifi. Well, we’re not sure yet, but the games are supposed to come out like that, so hopefully they will.
We all expect this to be the 1st batch (save a few games like Zack & Wiki, GH, etc…) coming from 3rd parties that will actually will have quality in all (or most) aspects of the games, so if 3rd parties commit to this, then this is their time to act!
