Resident Evil DS Due Q1 2006

Capcom has announced today that Resident Evil for the Nintendo DS will be available stateside in the first quarter of 2006. This will coincide with the 10th anniversary of the original Resident Evil for the PSX.

While the DS version is a remake of the original RE, it will feature a new Rebirth Mode that will emphasize action, have upgraded puzzles, touch screen input, and microphone input. It will also support a 4 player multiplayer mode.

Can you ever have too much Resident Evil? Not if they keep reinventing the series a la RE4 style on the GameCube.

  1. Depends. At least it’s been diff most of the times with the remake of the first game. On Nintendo platforms that is. But unlike REmake for GameCube, this one’s more of an enhanced port.

  2. As an RE junkie, I’m looking forward to this. I’m particularly interested in what they are going to do Audio-wise. The DS speakers can create some great mock-surround sound effects – this could do very well for the horror aesthetic.

Konami, are you just going to stand there and not bring Silent Hill!?
