Reggie promises second half lineup, big surprise for “gamers” at E3

reggie e3 nintendoThe Nintendo lineup for the first half of 2008 is pretty well known. Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl… oh, and there’s that DS thing too, which continues to sell in spite of the fact that I don’t think there are any more people left to buy the thing. NPD numbers say I’m wrong, of course, but still… 500k in February? The month is videogame doldrums as far as I’m concerned.

But what of that mysterious period after June? That’s been an unknown to this point, and already the punditry is ramping up speculation that the second half of the year will bring about the infamous Nintendo Drought.

But wait. What’s this? Reggie is dropping hints like I drop Infendo readers in online Smash Bros. Brawl? So he is, and it appears as though E3 is where he’ll put the smack down this year.

Reggie confirmed to Game Trailers TV that the second half Nintendo lineup arrives in June to coincide with E3, where the company is sure to have demo kiosks of games it has already released, Wii Fit stations, and this…

When asked if the orchestra conductor demo from E3 2006 would make an appearance, Reggie said “Who knows? Maybe that’s one of the things we’ll talk about at E3.” He similarly dodged a Donkey Kong Wii question.

Fils-Aime said that Nintendo’s post-E3 releases will be “maximizing all of our key franchises,” teasing something the hardcore userbase will be frothing over. F-Zero? Pilotwings? Something Zelda-related? What is it?!

Reggie was cagey. “There’s gonna be a big game for the holiday that the gamers will want,” he said. “All I can tell you is what we announce during E3 is gonna be fantastic. The gamer is gonna be excited and the expanded audience is gonna be excited.”

Could it be the big game Factor 5 is allegedly working on right now? Kid Icarus Wii? Dare I say, a completely original game from Nintendo? Something wildly different? A new accessory?

The mind boggles.
