Contrary to popular opinion about Nintendo’s lackluster market share, the company is doing great from a business standpoint. I should have posted this article much sooner cause it is just that well written. It explains how Nintendo with it’s 10% console market share turns as good as profit as all of Sony combined. Music, movies & games. Wow.
The Big N is going to be around for a long time. No need to fear, Mario and company will be jumping and pulling up mushrooms for quite sometime, even if Nintendo remain a smaller niche player. Fine with me as long as those classic first party games keep coming in.

Nintendo will prevail.
I can’t help but compare the Nintendo brand with the Apple brand. They have the charm that the big brands just can’t attain, no matter how hard they try.
I think you can compare the GB Micro with the iPod in the sense that it’s making something previously niche accessible to anybody through simplicity. Obviously the GB Micro is going to be dirt cheap and therefore pretty irresistible to any commuter looking for a quick bit of entertainment.
I don’t know… what do you think?
BTW – I read this article recently also, and loved it. In addition, I’m pretty sure most of you fellow Nintendorks have read the book “How Nintendo Zapped an American Industry, Captured Your Dollars, and Enslaved Your Children” But if you haven’t, I reccomend you do so A.S.A.P.

Nintendo is a lot like Apple in terms of style and rabid fanbase, but they are very dissimilar to Apple in their pricing. Nintendo rarely, if ever, charges a premium for their products. Games, systems and accessories from Nintendo are generally priced at the same or less than their competition. Yet they still make a tidy profit! To me, that’s the key to Nintendo’s continued business success.
The fact that they put out the best, most consistently polished, fun and engaging first-party exclusive games doesn’t hurt either.

I don’t care how much of the market Nintendo controls. As long as they’re still owning the industry on the customer satisfaction front, I’m happy. I really don’t want to be associated with the guy who claims that he can “school my dog” at Madden anyway.

I absolutely agree. Nintendo is actually making money on its games and systems.
I don’t particularly want to see Nintendo “win the race” – just go on being Nintendo and producing those great, fun, happy games that no one else can make.
I don’t care if every other jerk down the street has a PS3. Just give me my Nintendo!
