Nintendo just announced what many 3DS owners have been hoping for: Monday’s eShop launch will include two freebies: Pokedex 3D and Excitebike 3D.
Check below for Eugene’s summary of Pokedex 3D: This sounds like it could be a lot of fun, and the price is certainly right! I’m particularly happy regarding this morning’s confirmation that the game will support AR viewing of your Pokemon in real world settings. Could a genuine AR-based Pokemon game be far behind? Can E3 get here any sooner?
I’m looking forward to Excitebike in 3D; this version will include the ability to save custom-built tracks. Excitebike will be offered for free until July 7th.
Also mentioned: The internet browser “has the capability to show 3D images on sites specifically designed to show 3D images.” Let’s hope this actually takes off; it could be the next best thing to Harry Potter’s Daily Prophet.
Now, what would a Nintendo announcement be without a bit of frustratingly vague news? While they’ve confirmed Super Mario Land, Alleyway and Radar Mission for the 3DS virtual console, they say the games are “upcoming” and that new content will be added to the eShop on Thursdays. Huh. So…does that mean, upcoming for launch, upcoming for the following Thursday, or…Thursday whenever? I have enough faith in Nintendo to assume they wouldn’t launch the eShop without any VC titles, but…why is my gut doing a face-palm? Let’s hope for the best and…hey, free Excitebike, everyone!
Uncertainty aside, I can’t wait to get some more content into my poor, starving little 3DS! Anyone else excited about the freebies?

The 3D Pokedex explains why Nintendo has been cracking down and getting even free Pokedex software removed from the Android Market (and I assume App Store). They want you using their software on their mobile platform.

very excited for both of these. my seven year old will have a blast with the pokedex 3d.

Pokedex 3D & Excitebike 3D seem like a great way to start off the Nintendo eShop! But hearing that the eShop would be getting new updates to the store in the form of new content, new apps and whatever might come from Nintendo on Thursdays seems a bit weird to me. I wonder why not Mondays like the Wii Shop Channel? Still, like I said yesterday, if Super Mario Land isn’t DAY 1 then I’ll be pissed off cause Nintendo has a section of somewhere on there site that says it’s scheduled for 6/6/2011. I sure hope so.

What Happened to Link”s Awakening? Is that not coming out now? Definately picking up Excite bike 3D. That will be awesome. 🙂

I’m excited for the update but I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed. No flash or html5 support for the browser which means no video (yet). No Link’s Awakening, 3DSWare, or Classics (other than excitebike). Like the launch of the system itself, this once again seems a bit rushed, a bit underwhelming, and a bit unsupported in terms of content.
Just my two cents. *marks every Thursday on the calendar*

Very surprising news, and a cool one at that.

Any news if this is just a state-side thing, or available worldwide?…

Ridiculously awesome! This’ll help keep me busy while the wait for Ocarina of Time 3D drags on.

I agree with Brett on the underwhelming rushed feel since Sony and Microsoft and god damn even apple have had great online stores since b.c. But fuckin a we all nintendo for a reason. The content. I love the power glove. It’s so bad.
