Neopets Puzzle Adventure Wii Impressions

Neopets is based around taking care of virtual pets that inhabit the virtual world of Neopia. Visitors can create an account and take care of up to four virtual pets, buying them food, toys, clothes, and other accessories using a virtual currency called Neopoints. Neopoints can be earned through playing games, investing in the stock market, trading, winning contests and making your own shop. However, that is the structure of Neopets on its web based counterpart and not Neopets Adventure.

Neopets Adventure is a title that was made to appeal both to casual gamers and the fans of Neopets. It was worked on by the same developers as Puzzle Quest Challenge of the Warlords but with a friendlier easier game play. The game also features never-before-seen areas in the Neopets universe to explore and the opportunity to redeem codes for exclusive virtual items at exclusive pets at Neopets.com. As well as a exploration adventure to take part of and explore.

With an in-depth and exciting storyline based on the world of Neopets, and an entire virtual world to explore, Neopets Puzzle Adventure is the ultimate puzzle-adventure game for players everywhere. The game features many areas to check out and explore, as well as interaction with a bunch of in game NPCs to progress through the story line.

As you explore the over world map you will come across points of interest were you can make decisions to explore for pets, or start a battle with someone in the area. Searching the areas will get you some items, or unlock more of the story, while allowing you to learn more about the world of Neotopia. As well as level up and unlock unique codes and items that can be sent to your Neopets account at Neotopia. However, the game also features a slight battle feature where you can fight against other NPC Neopet adventurers.

The battle is basically a mix between Reversi (Othello) and Go (a Japanese strategy game). The new take on the game adds some new twists and isn’t just about obtaining the most pieces on the board, but rather obtaining the most points, and locking out your opponent from getting further then yourself. As well as allowing the player to make use of the pets he has in his arsenal which can do some unique things like shaking up the board or flipping one of your opponents tokens or doing a double move. Things can get quite challenging as you progress down the road.

Along with the battle system there is also a bunch of other casual mini games that you can play. Such as a type of memory match, a mind sweeper like game, and some others. There is also another game that is paired with this for the DS, but it does not feature any unique connectivity between the Wii version and itself. The only thing that they both have is exclusive codes for Neopets.com, where you get exclusive items.

There are 10 unlockable codes achieved in playing the game on each platform – PC, Wii and DS (a total of 30 unlockables) – that can be redeemed on Neopets.com for exclusive items. Also, the developer of the DS game is Griptonite Games while the PC and Wii versions are developed by Infinite Interactive.

Although, as you can tell the game is more driven torwards the “tween” young teen audience, it can also be enjoyed by some adults. I have to say though, I got Othello as a kid for christmas once, and it ended up staying in my closet for years. I would assume only neopet fans apply to this game, unless you feel daring enough to try something kiddyish.
