Mario Basket 3 on 3 Update

RPG or action sports title? Let’s go with the later. That’s right, Square-Enix is reported to be the developer on the previously announced Mario Basket 3 on 3 game from Famitsu scans. A recent Nintendo DS press conference also revealed the unique control scheme in which the player will actually use the touch pad to perform dribbling, passing, and shooting mechanics while the D-pad will be used for directional control. Dribbling required tapping on the screen, while passing is performed by a quick left or right swipe of the stylus, and shooting with an upward direction.

It should be interesting to see how this gameplay holds up as the game nears completion. Mario Basket 3 on 3 is expected sometime in 2006 for the Nintendo DS.

  1. This game looks so nice and it could bring the first really really different control scheme.
THAT is innovation! That’s what Nintendo wanted to get other developers to do with the DS!

  2. As soon as i read that the stylus would be used, i predictde it was gonna be side swipes for passes, taps for dribbles, and upwards swipe for shooting. It’s more than intuitive.

  3. Hmmm, with Nintendo being the leader in innovation why do they suffer from the mentality of the sequel with Mario. Last I saw 9 out of the top 10 selling games were all sequels. I know this isn’t an actual sequel but Mario seems on every game, I mean MarioKart was awesome but now Mario is pro at Golf/baseball/basketball… can we get some new franchises please. Note this is my biggest gripe with Nintendo. Only hope is the revolution brings something.
