Wired’s Chris Kohler is right. These monthly NPD reports are getting kind of boring. Nintendo dominates, Nintendo games dominate, and Xbox 360 continues to outpace the fledgling PlayStation 3.
But, as my tired eyes looked over the software sales list for January tonight, they stopped abruptly on the game in slot number eight. New Super Mario Bros. for the DS? Really?
Truly, this plucky title, which I enjoyed but actually wished was more like Super Mario World than the enhanced Super Mario Bros it was purposefully designed to be, has managed to break into the post-holiday sales list with an impressive 135,000 units sold.
To think, there are people out there who seriously believe Nintendo should retire the plucky plumber.
